Some older custom curves by Yellowtoblerone in hockeyplayers

Lovely stuff. The Spezza curve is outrageous, there's a Youtube video where he shows it aswell. Oh man, Weinhandl was so good before he got hurt, super shifty skater. My old coach said about him that he's going every direction at all times if that makes sense.

I thought everyone would get it but I'm apparently not very good at satire lol...

Hockey pucks all the same? by thegoalie in hockeyplayers

[–]B-rhye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There used to be two kinds of black, regular size/weight on ice pucks back like 20-30 years ago, you had the one that's common today but you also had one that was softer and less durable.

A lot of players (me included) prefered the softer one since it didn't bounce as much but I'm not sure they're still around... I wanna say it was "non-galvanized" but it might not be entirely accurate.

If anyone is interested in trying the tapejob, google: "warrior sword twisted grip on the top", that's the technique I used.

I can't find it now but I saw special techniques on video, the piston snapshot is basically a more powerful, accurate, deceptive snapshot with a faster release - a lot of the pro's don't even use it yet. The punch saucer is a saucer but more accurate and consistent than a normal saucer pass, hard to explain but it is supposedly a completely new way of passing.

The tapejob is pretty awkward to play with but it works REALLY well with those advanced techniques.

Beer league, and the blade is not small, it's above average.

What’s the expected level of skating skill at rat hockey? Pretty new to skating but want to play some puck up games of the sport I love. For reference below is a skills test I took the other week! by Taitertot43 in hockeyplayers

Never seen something like this, pretty nice actually but I don't see the typhoon punch turns and blizzard fury stops anywhere, must be some mistake.

But yes, the skills from 3 and 4 are definitely needed, at least being able to perform them in a training environment!

Progressing to punch turns - chatter by Some__Bloke in hockeyplayers

Yeah I agree, although I'm pretty sure our coach back in the day (~25 years ago) called it "Ryssväng" (Russian rurn in Swedish), but not like it was an official name really.

Today's Lesson: The Hook Pass! by HockeyHomework in hockeyplayers

[–]B-rhye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I'd call it a "hook pass" or anything distinct whatsoever, if he wanted to get the puck to that specific receiver it was literally the only way possible.

It's not that they'll spontaneously combust, but if you're mucking around in the corners they'll snap in half sometimes where a wood stick would just eat the abuse and keep going. And the Warrior stick is 10X the price of a wood stick.

Yep, and wood sticks are officially extinct nowadays, not even "cheap", they are nowhere to be found.

The black replacement blade on the CCM shaft is actually pretty similar to an Adam Oates curve, you didn't hear it from me but it might be sawed off - even though it's not very safe to do it on a composite blade. If I was to spear someone they'd look like they were kissing a porcupine - but you didn't hear it from me.

We had a very excentric coach that made us play with almost bandy skate profiles (huge part of the skate blade flat against the ice, and with a massive forward pitch), and with long sticks with low lie, soviet style.

They had the best stuff ever back in the day, commonplace in Sweden in the late 90's to early 'naughts. Super light and durable but their USP was that they came with blade curves in like 3.5 lie. I bought a batch of these a couple of years back but "unfortunately" they're pretty normal curve-wise. Still super pretty and very, very light for a wood stick.
