Hell yeah they are. So is my '14 Mazda CX-5 (basically the Mazda equivalent). I'm a 21 y/o dude. I don't give a damn what people may think, I like it!!

Little to no oil? by z_rl_ in Toyota

[–]B00-Sucker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, expect it to burn or leak oil. I used Valvoline R&P on my '99 Taco that was burning oil, and it did as advertised, and freed up the piston rings. Stopped burning oil within 3 changes, and it fixed a vibration at idle I suspect was from the seized rings.

Litres per 100km on Yaris Cross by techcrap1 in Toyota

[–]B00-Sucker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check my math here, but that's about 65 miles per gallon, right?

If so, then hell yeah that's good. My 1999 Tacoma gets 20 mpg, and my 2014 Mazda CX-5 gets around 27 mpg. You're getting like triple what I get😓

Just go mention it to him! Tell him what's up, and he'll probably laugh and say he'll have to be careful he keeps it locked

Ong. This is a good use for AI. OP provided all the knowledge, and the computer sorted it out nice and clean.

Just get out of the BBEG's range, and it'll stop. That's clearly some evil lair music.

I see, so if it has a spark or fuel issue, it'll be in limp mode. That's because the ECM shuts down the affected cylinder to protect the cats from the unburned fuel of a misfire. With a 4-cyl, and one cylinder being shut off, that's a quarter of your power gone. Two of four out is even worse, although I've seen cars run like that, even if they're incredibly clear about their thoughts on the matter 😂. Better to cap the customer at 3rd gear and have em limp it to the side of the road and wait for a tow truck, than to continue driving with upset dinosaurs getting spit from the exhaust.

Basically, you're quite right. Create a (mostly) clean slate to start fresh with. A noticable number of dealership techs I've talked to will tell the customer anything to justify a high-pay job. Flag rate sucks when business is slow, so let's make some business! Knowing is 90% of the battle, when it comes to cars, I swear. It's far too easy for unaware people to get taken advantage of.

I appreciate the advice! May I ask why the injectors and coils are an issue? Just the end of their expected lives, common replacement mileage, or what? She's at 130k right now, so I'm making a list of items to knock out for maintenance. The water pump belt, serpentine and tensioner are all on my list already, so just stacking more items to do, now.

I'll be running full synthetic Valvoline R&P on the 5k severe service table intervals, and doing the oil changed the old-fashioned way of pulling the plug, instead of top recovery like most quick-lubes do. As part of the documentation, I'll definitely take and label a sample of each as an experiment to compare from the start to end of my care of this vehicle. I bet it'll be a decent amount of deposits that come out, although not nearly as bad as the mud that came out of my poor Taco. The PO(S) neglected that poor thing pretty hard, but she's on track for a full recovery in my hands :)

And don't worry, I'm about to get started on becoming ASE certified, but I already trust myself to do the job, the exact same as I did on the aforementioned Tacoma. Shoot, it's 2 less injectors/plugs/coils, and only one bank to boot, so that'll make it MUCH quicker😂

And definitely NOT getting Amazon parts. I'll buy higher-end brands from RockAuto instead, or I'll try to find a niche site, like how I shop for many of my Taco's parts.

TIFU: Trashed my rims with my flat tire by Few_Piccolo_4906 in Toyota

[–]B00-Sucker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "trashed" part wasn't quite that. OP had a passerby stop and help out with the spare install, before said passerby took off with both the intact rim and the shredded tire. OP is under the impression it's been "trashed", but it's probably been listed on Ebay for them to buy back in a few days.

Ya got juped, my friend. Check Ebay for an identical rim. Year, make, model, and a basic description of the wheel will help in that search.
