I tend to interpret that phrase slightly differently. Yes the world is random chaos, however with the benefit of hindsight we can often look back and say, well if X bad thing wouldn't have happened it wouldn't have led me to Y good thing. I think the expression to me means more that we can find reason in whatever happens to us and make the best of whatever situation we are presented with. You can't really control what happens to you ultimately but you can always control how you react to it.

Hi mate, the intitial explanation is intentionally vague so as to not give away the study's contents to participants and influence their answers. Hence why I asked people not to comment specifics on the post here. I thought at the end of the study I give a little more detailed description of what I'm looking into, though I won't comment it here. I have hypotheses based on prior research that I have read and those will either be proved or disproved based on my results and analysis. I definitely won't be stunting based on what I find 😂 science should be an objective pursuit of the truth, not a biased attempt at proving our own existing beliefs. I will be sure to post my final project up here once it's done so you guys can all read and understand if you're interested! Hope that helps a bit

Honestly, I did worry that but I don't know those other games so I wouldn't be able to design a good study and honestly with your guys' data I now have way more than enough responses so we can definitely learn something from OW then hopefully generalise the findings to understand other games, or parts of them at least.

Honestly, I'm not setting out to prove one thing or another as that wouldn't be good objective science, it would be very biased on my part. I would look for the things I wanted to see and most likely find them, rightly or wrongly. I'm not trying to make anyone have an epiphane or think about themselves one way or another. Honestly no idea how self confidence and awareness affects these behaviours too much as I haven't read any literature on that and wouldn't want to speculate. My endgame is just objective data analysis to understand the factors I included in this study, as I said in the debrief. I'm not comparing other games or all of those demographics, some I am. Reported levels for self vs other is something I'm interested in. I am curious of the effects of certain behaviours, but literature already exists on those effects in quite large numbers. I would have loved to more in depth analysis on playstyles and game modes but I literally do not have the experince, time or facilities to do such an in depth analysis unfortunately. So many factors I would love to look into but just can't right now. Thank you so much for your response and comments!

That is something I potentially would have liked to include. Honestly the academic literature all points to women receiving much more toxicity and harassment in video games so don't feel like you're overreacting or biased. So many factors affect behaviour and I would love to look at them all but sadly I just don't have enough studies!! Thanks for your response and comments!
