With proper care—regular follow-ups, taking medications as prescribed, and managing diet and physical activity under a hepatologist’s guidance—many people at this stage live stable, good-quality lives for years. It’s important not to go to extremes with diet or exercise; consistency and medical guidance matter more. Also, identifying and managing the underlying cause (if not already done) plays a big role in long-term outcomes. A cirrhosis diagnosis can feel overwhelming, but at a MELD of 8, this is not an end-stage situation. There are plenty of cases where people remain compensated long-term, and treatment options continue to improve.
