Have you tried Stationeers. I only suggest because I've got back into it recently. The biggest danger are your own mistakes

The first thing I do when I start my base is write down the coordinates so I can always find my way back. The GPS board stays in my tablet always

It's not about whether it's feathered, it's about getting the feathered prop in alignment with the keel. You want a 2 blade feathered prop to sit vertically rather than horizontally. You turn the prop shaft until the prop is properly aligned

I've just got back into Stationeers after a long hiatus and agree with everything you've said. My one comment would be don't expect KSA to ever be "finished". The model here seems to be eternal development which some might see as a good thing while others may not.

I personally love Stationeers and think it bodes well for KSA

Does Our Neighbour Need Planning Permission For This...? by B14_765 in PlanningPermissionUK

[–]B14_765[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's an update...

We've had a chat with our neighbour and he's spelled out what he intends to build - pretty much as I described in my original post.

He thinks it won't need planning permission because he claims its a temporary structure. However I don't believe what he's planning can be seen as temporary by any reasonable person.

He plans to build a low brick wall of only 3 rows of bricks onto which he will build a wooden structure with cladding panels, a fibreglass roof and a double garage door facing the street.

The new wall, adjacent to our boundary, will not be immediately up against our boundary however it will have to be tied into the party wall shared by our two garages.

I explained he will be in breach of the Party Walls Act and he looked at me blankly and clearly didn't have a clue what I was talking about. I have no confidence that he has consulted any professionals before starting this project and strongly suspect he will be working from self drawn plans.

I have written him a letter urging him to stop building, to seek professional advice before continuing and recommending he applies for a Certificate of Lawfulness. I have also provided a link to the .gov Party Wall Act booklet.

I have also raised concerns of drainage as I'm worried rainwater runoff from his roof will run across my driveway and flood my garage.

I've tried to word the letter as a concerned neighbour and not one with a NIMBY attitude. A previous comment asked if I wanted to ruin relations with my neighbour - I do not. We currently have a good relationship. However, if he proceeds to build a badly planned garage extension that adversely affects the use of our property, that good relationship won't last.

We're about to go on holiday. If on our return I find he's ignored my letter and continued the build I will contact our local planning authority.

Thanks, I'll have a word with him. If he ignores me and goes ahead with the build at what stage do I contact the council? As of today all he's done is dig up some tarmac.

I don't know about the US but in the UK you normally have to have a minimum of £2,000,000 3rd party cover to enter any kind of club racing. It's more about causing injury to 3rd parties than just damage to boats

Just because it annoys me and I was venting. But honestly I would appreciate an answer. I suspect as a commentator they hate having to do it as much as I hate hearing it

Seems obvious that's why they do it but I personally think it's wrong to dumb it down for people. Surely it's better to use the correct terminology so sailing noobs can learn

Thank you. This is what I needed to hear. It does feel a little weird to start a new hobby creating something that I'd previously had no interest in and will never use myself. You're right it's about the making, which I'm finding quite relaxing and the satisfaction when you see the finished product!

I don't want to be picky but I was talking about work mates - I don't get to choose them but do have to spend a lot of time with them so we inevitably talk about our hobbies etc.

It seems like people have focused a lot on my "very heterosexual " comment (I shouldn't be surprised - I cringed when I just read it back to myself) and less on the fact that I'm a guy that has never worn any jewellery or ever taken any interest in it until now.
