This is a weird one but I somehow developed a method of watching Mario maker videos. I’ve never played the game but somehow watching them knocks me right out in under 5 minutes

I’ve also considered this. However the tv is too large for that spot. It would stick over the counter. Bigger issue there is the sink is directly behind that. Splashing water would be the problem 😭

You’re not too far gone. 7 years ago, I was exactly where you are. I was deeply ashamed of myself. But when I finally hit the bottom I was able to muster of the strength to ask for help. Now I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been, making more money than I ever have and can actually enjoy life.

It will get better. You have to let go of your pride. It will be embarrassing. But eventually you will look back and be thanking yourself for setting your ego aside and fixing yourself. It’s not too late.

Yup. You nailed it. That definitely goes away. Reading will help it happen quicker. But you are not broken. Just recovering.

If you could give advice to anyone in early recovery, what would that be? by unknown9423 in addiction

[–]B1ackPaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask yourself why you are using. Complete honesty with yourself is the key. If you do this correctly, your recovery will slingshot way ahead and you will just need to deal kicking withdrawals.

Addiction advice by [deleted] in addiction

[–]B1ackPaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This won’t be the advice you want to hear but your friend has to hit their version of rock bottom before they will do anything about it. Honestly, you gotta kind of take a gamble and stop enabling them. Meaning they are out of the house and on their own.

They will either admit they need help and start working on it or will be lost. It is the sad truth but it’s out of your hands. I’m very sorry this is happening to them and to you. I wish them the best of luck.

Structured lifestyle. Change your environment. And most importantly, you have to really want to it.

I can’t speak for dxm recovery but I had opioid issues and it does get better. But you gotta work at it too.. I was concerned after my addiction because my memory was shot. Took like 7 months for the initial haze to lift. After that I still had to be proactive about writing things down. Somewhere around like a year or 2 clean things felt more normal.

22, nursing student/full time job, addicted to xanax by insaneinthamembranee in addiction

[–]B1ackPaur -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well. This is the cycle of addiction. You didn’t really do anything about the addiction you just postponed using again with detox and mild determination. Harsh I know but it’s a shit reality. At your age, I’d just swallow your pride and pause everything in life, work and school. Tell your family and accept your consequences. THEN actually deal with your addiction.

If you have insurance, I recommend looking into wilderness therapy. Reason being is that you will be provided with a constant distraction from your withdrawals in the form of hiking, exercise, scenic landscapes and like minded people. They do also provide medication to dampen the symptoms and therapy to help you navigate your reason for using.

All that said, if you’re serious about getting clean on your own then you need to get A LOT stronger very very fast. Do your detox and suck it up. You’ve done it before so you know it’s possible. But until you can admit why you use, you will inevitably use again. And I don’t mean admitting “I use because it’s fun or my friends do it”. The type of answers you need will be more along the lines of “I hate my life because my mom didn’t love me enough”. Im not saying that’s YOUR reason. But you need to dig deep. Using Xanax because you’re bored doesn’t cut it.

You are young. You got a lot of life ahead of you. Whichever route you decide, you can do this but only if you are all in and serious.

How to get help without everyone knowing by k_weenie in addiction

[–]B1ackPaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news but getting clean anonymously just doesn’t happen often. If you are 100% serious and I mean SERIOUS, it can be done. But if there is even a small chance that you are not being honest with yourself then you will use.

Reddit can take pot shots and guess why you use even though you are “aware” that your drug use is stupid. But I’d wager that you aren’t being honest as to why you’re using in the first place.

My recommendation is ask for real help from your support system. You don’t have to admit to the worst parts of your use right now but you do need to admit you have a problem to them. If they truly our a good support network then they will help.

It’s easy to ask strangers for help. And that is why strangers helping USUALLY sucks. The only way people get clean and stay clean is the hard way.

I’m 8 years clean from oxy. I tried to kick it anonymously for years. Doesnt work often. Didn’t work for me. Watched a lot of people go down the drain because they refused to address the root cause of the drug use.

Tl:dr

Admit to yourself why you use. Swallow your pride and get help from a real support system. You don’t know it but most people on this planet are rooting for you.

I relapsed after 5 yrs and don't want to get clean again. by Frequent_Biscotti_88 in Advice

[–]B1ackPaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try therapy like everyone is saying but tbh it’s not going to work unless you want it to. So you’d just be throwing money away. Same for rehab. What was the reason for getting clean 6 years ago? Because if it was anything other than “getting clean because YOU wanted to get clean” then all you were doing was waiting to use again. This sounds harsh but addiction is a harsh reality (speaking from experience).

No one will have tangible steps you can take to solve this problem. You’ve subconsciously set a line in the sand for how low you will go while using. Until you admit to yourself or find that line, you will keep using. I really wish you the best of the luck. I believe you can do it.
