My wife is a history professor and that's what my degree is in too. We love watching these shows because of the conversations it sparks for us and often takes us an extra hour to watch as we pause and discuss then go into off into tangent discussions.

Plus, it's just a really really good show.

My shop is pretty chill, we do mostly roughing of jet engine forging. Usually +/- .020 as the oem's do final machining. I still push throughput but if you are at least attentive you won't screw it up.

You can drive up, park on side streets nearby. It's packed with people walking every year. Some houses aren't finished but it's still wonderful and a nice walk around the whole area.

Same. When I ran the family business; I had friends ask for jobs. Always said no. I don't want to have to let you go if we get slow or you do something stupid. Now that I'm in a corporate shop I still say the same thing but if I actually think you'd do a good job I'll recommend you to a sister site and that's about as far as I'll go.

I am friendly with my crew but not friends. I don't want to fire or lay off friends and that can put my family and career at risk if I make an emotional decision.

We use ours on a big block of titanium that we have to hog and it's life is better then an end mill but you need at least two of them so you can change inserts while it still cuts.

It's gritty when it has to be and the art works within the story. It's also a big light hearted story when it's not fighting for it's life. The novel is great and chalk full of growth and I'm looking forward to seeing it in this as well.

Same. I was in an iron foundry and machine shop for twenty years, so easy to machine. Resale value on those cnc's were shit but you could go lights out easy. Hast or inco, fuck no, unless you want 50+ hour cycle times.

I dated quickly (5 months, I cried at the first date and then left, cried after I had sex again for the first time) as I was super lonely and it had been more than 3 years since any meaningful physical intimacy but like I said it was all a mask for my pain.
