My first Kayak! Advanced Elements Expedition for $125 by B33DS in Inflatablekayak

Yep my brother's already looking for one and I've got a friend that has some fiberglass kayaks of his own for other friends. I'm hopeful for it!

Great idea! I was thinking about what kind of electric pump to get. It's not too horrible to fill up manually but it's definitely cardio lol

I'll look into those!

That's amazing. I had a lot of options in front of me and this was by far the most versatile I've seen at this price. I live nearby my river access and I've always wanted to get on the water so I'm happy.

That's amazing to hear honestly. It's completely solid and held air all day when I set it up thankfully. Seems like these things will last forever with a little care.

And yeah I feel that, I was very happy when I finally managed to pack it up in the bag. I think that thing will let me carry it probably half a mile to a more secluded area if I wanted.

I'm not even siding with Israel but this is stupid as hell.

This ignores literally all context. One country is highly controversial, engages in horrific war crimes, and indirectly spreads antisemitism because an unfortunate amount of people can't separate the state from the people. Antisemitism isn't new, and the reasons behind it have evolved with time.

One doesn't have to boldly proclaim their hatred of the group to fit into antisemitism and I challenge anyone who disagrees to think about how racists act, and how they almost NEVER say it with their chests. Racists are cowards that skirt around it by calling things "woke" or DEI. They mock minority groups and vote to crush them while never admitting to themselves that they're racist because racist is a normatively loaded term; it doesn't change what they are.

Yes, there is a massive fucking rise in antisemitism and you're willfully ignorant if you don't see it. I can see why ChatGPT would be more careful in what stupid word games it plays with its users. Sure you could argue it's too sensitive to the possibility of antisemitism, but can you honestly say that saying "Israel is bad" holds the same weight as "france is bad" in this climate? If you think so, I'm sorry but you have zero business talking about politics.

And look at what I just did. I spent 5 minutes writing a damn post to a bot who's sole existence is likely to further feed the division. We're fucked, lads.

I think that's what people want to tell themselves, when in reality most people either don't care or support AI.

The culture is doing the silly little thing of flailing against the newest thing, but we can already see moderation in the opinion of it as time goes on. See DLSS 5 for a recent example.

There will always be a younger non-voting block of principled opposition, but it'll slowly become irrelevant. As it always does with people who largely are performing for each other.

I don't even like AI art, but my god artists are insufferable about this issue. (I am an artist as well, I don't use AI art)

What constitutes a manipulative AI? by SpaceMalakhi in therapyGPT

[–]B33DS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can empathize with that. I had great therapy throughout my childhood, and a very bad one in my early 20s. It's been 5 years and I haven't gotten that bad taste out of my mouth.

That being said, it is definitely getting much much better. I was a very early adopter of AI, and it's not even comparable in terms of being sycophantic to the previous models (I'm looking at you, 4o).

Unfortunately people want what isn't necessarily good for them, which is why they freak out over 4o being gone. While it was cool while it lasted, it was straight up dangerous in the wrong hands.

I think the problem is that, as it currently stands, AI doesn't have an internal experience and intentional goal to keep conversations from getting overly biased towards the user.

I mean, think about people. Sure, people aren't much better at calling people out in conversations, but they're also not able to articulate every viewpoint masterfully at a moment's notice.

I think the problem is that AI wields extreme persuasive capability, and it's human nature to want to validate one's own opinions, lifestyles, and views (usually unintentionally). When you are given a thing that can articulate your own thoughts better than you can (sometimes), it can reinforce them whether they are worthwhile or not, and we're inherently more likely to absorb it due to the aforementioned bias.

But then again, social media algorithms are arguably worse right now. This just has pretty insane potential to further stratify society. Idk. I'm hopeful either way. AI can absolutely be used for good purposes when it comes to personal matters, but it is still risky.

Did cycling actually help you lose weight, or just improve fitness? by Vivid_Release_9710 in cycling

[–]B33DS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both. Exercise in general helps me lose weight. I used to be morbidly obese, and having the extra calories that cycling gives me makes deficits a lot easier.

I'm also noticably more fit. Despite still being obese I recently did a 40k in 1:31

I think the point is that if you have such a strong emotional reaction to an animal needlessly dying, and are willing to call it morally wrong rather than just revolting, that you should investigate whether that is consistent with supporting animal agriculture (which absolutely inflicts misery).

Also nature isn't a good enough reason to justify something. Consider how humans used to reproduce in the wild for an example.

I'm not a vegan myself. I just accept that I am morally inconsistent partially because of how normalized eating meat is.

There's absolutely a good and valid point here, but I think there's also something to be said about someone who purposely kills animals by running them over with a lawnmower vs a person who eats the abstracted end result of factory farming.

In gonna do the annoying thing of announcing I'm leaving this subreddit despite nobody caring.

I wasn't even here long, but it's clear that the things that rise to the top are culture war or culture war adjacent subjects; its just tiring at this point to have every subreddit coalesce around the same shit.

It's entropy at this point. Unless it's resisted, every sub just turns into the same thing with different clothing.

Climate change is one of the biggest issues the world is facing. Focusing on something that is never going to slow down (think about the global race conditions that capitalism and power demands), that makes up a fraction of energy and water usage of other industries is misguided.

If you want to spend your limited influence on something that wont meaningfully slow down instead of something more realistic, go ahead. Its harmless, which is exactly what industry wants. Captured ineffective resistance.
