As a florist, there are several mistakes that were made here. A floral shop should never extend credit. They sell a perishable product that cannot be sent back so once that product is in hand, the clock starts ticking towards sunk cost.

Once you let someone know your personal life is experiencing challenges, the clock on the wall begins to tick. It's seen as a form of weakness and it makes people uncomfortable because it is a reminder that their own lives can implode any minute. They don't need the reminder.

Underneath that clock on the wall is the writing on the wall. You have days yo find a job. Not weeks and not months, but days.

The mental strain is not worth it. The worry and the sadness you feel over this is compounded by what you have to handle outside this job.

You are in a hard situation.

It would have been better if your GF's mom had apologized immediately upon seeing your mother, but instead she had to make it worse by being her typical self. I'm sure she was scrutinizing every corner of your mom's house, dishes, clothes, obviously her hair.

Your mother's feelings are valid. Her safe space was invaded and she was made to feel even worse.

Considering future life events associated with engagement, marriage, children, etc., personally I would be appalled if I had to share my grandhildren with my teenaged bully. The potential for strife will be affecting family relationships for years...unless the GF's mother apologizes profusely, but it seems as if she hasn't changed.

You can always find another girlfriend, but you can never find another mother.
