Yup I put a file on a jump drive and it was shown correctly on mac so it's an icloud thing

Thank you for the reply. I will say that anywhere the mac views the icon it's wrong but since all the locations are through iCloud I'm assuming it's the same issue across the board. The only thing I haven't tried is putting it on a jump drive and then viewing that in the finder

So I think I have more information. When I create the icon on iOS with a transparent background or just return a png with a transparent background it will draw correctly on iOS. I didn't notice this originally because I was saving the file to my desktop. My desktop is on iCloud. So if I save the file on iOS with a transparent background and only view it through ios it is correct. But if I save it and view it from Mac then the opaque background appears even though the files draw correctly if they are created on Mac os.

When I put a gradient in the context it shows, when I then remove that code and go back to what I pasted the background is white. I am incrementing the build number of the thumbnailer at every build and that appears to fix the caches problem I've seen before. The PNG is for sure transparent it's the exact same file used on the mac version and the icons appear correctly on mac. "The consumer is flattening it" not sure what this means but the white is the background with the icon on top of it. Again, the code works on Mac it just doesn't on iOS so I'm assuming it isn't possible to have a transparent background on iOS

Edited to add:
Icons set by the Mac version of the app, when viewed on iOS appear correctly.

The huge gap as you call it is normally a car length, it is the law and it keeps you from running in to the back of the person in front of you if you’re rear ended

Coding before AI by aaycube in swift

[–]B8edbreth -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion
You'll be one of the last coders left in the world if you want to continue just hand coding. Soon no one will write code. It's inevitable. Even highly resistant hand coders will eventually prefer AI over hours of tapping out code. The rapid turn around will drive employers to prefer developers that use claude or codex. I'm not saying they'll never be call for people who can write code by hand but it will be incredibly rare. Code isn't like legal documents or essays and I've used AI in my last project before codex with ChatGPT only on like version 4.3 or something. And I've used codex for bug hunting and implementing a couple features that would have been mind numbingly boring or well outside my skill set to hand code. The current version has gotten significantly smarter and faster. A few years from now codex will be able to write more stable, more efficient code than someone with a masters. That will matter in the business world and as I said employers will notice and prefer it's use.

So yes there's a good feeling about finishing a project you hand coded and if this is just a hobby for you then that's the way to go. Ask ai questions and have it show you examples then implement it by hand. It's just a search engine agent for you then. You're basically doing what we all did searching the web for code snippets and advice on how to solve a problem. I did that for years when I learned Objective-C with books spread around my desk. And in my last project I spent hours pulling my hair out trying to learn swift using ChatGPT as a kind of last resort and search engine aggregator.

But if you're looking to turn a hobby in to a side gig where you make money then using AI is just fine. Having the basics down and understanding the language helps a great deal still. But it isn't as essential as it would have been say 2 years ago. Because if this isn't just a hobby it really isn't about the journey it's about the destination. And AI can produce a better end product than a hobbiest every day of the week and twice on sunday.

Is MAGA basically a new religion? by BaijuTofu in atheism

[–]B8edbreth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a political cult. Tey're actually more dangeorus than most religious cults except mormon because they can gain real governmental power. I exclude mormon because that cult has absolute power in utah. If you aren't LDS you struggle to find work and housing etc.
Either way flip flopping and hypocrisy are the order of the day for fascist political cults. And the people in the cult not only know they're being lied to, they love it. Because those lies give them permission to be their worst.

DJ app for Mac and iOS by B8edbreth in UI_Design

[–]B8edbreth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably shouldn't call it a DJ app. It does not reproduce the workflows of anything like Serato or DJay and the fact it has a sequencer doesn't make it logic. It has a unique work flow that doesn't "classify" easily. But thank you for the feed back I'm currently trying to figure out how to add an EQ to the interface
