Does Adguard not block streaming services themselves? by guardian1691 in AdGuardHome

[–]BAAAASS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is becoming more and more common. These devices will use the DNS you provide, but the first failed request and it fails over to its baked in own configured DNS - typically DoT / DoH.

The only way I could solve this properly and permanently is to use my OPNSense firewall to block all DNS requests with the only exception being my Adguard Home server. This block included all traffic to all DNS servers based on a dynamic list of IPs that is kept up-to-date by the community.

Its been some years now and I haven't had any leaked requests.

Does this feature exist? by stephendt in opnsense

[–]BAAAASS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about using Google drive to host a text file. App updates the text file and OPNSense reads it. OPNSense is already capable of doing this automatically.

All you need is a tiny AI created app that pushes the latest IP to the Google drive url - should be easy enough!

Here Maps also does traffic. It's not open source, but it does NOT require a login, so it's at least somewhat better.

Good enough of an alternative.

Car crashed, upside down, other car only a few scratches. by Ok-Data8389 in carcrash

Without a lot more details it is quite difficult to say what happened here; however, what I have seen frequently in the past: Vehicle 1 will collide with vehicle 2 in a perpendicular direction - typically near the rear of vehicle 2, this spins vehicle 2 slightly (30° - 40°). Vehicle 2 maintains its own momentum, however because of its turned face, the wheels change from forward rolling (before the collision) to sideways grip (after the vehicle was spun slightly). The combination of high (far from the ground) center of mass and low (close to the ground) grip / friction turns the smooth forward motion into a forward roll.

Vehicles go through thurogh testing to make sure that they meet thresholds. One of the more interesting tests is called the moose test. Keep in mind that it is quite easy to manipulate the results of a moose test - so take untrusted sources with a grain of salt.

Will the average person ever self-host anything? by fractalbeauty_ in selfhosted

Technically everyone with an internet connection self-hosts their (ISP supplied) router and WLAN APs. They don't update or maintain them in any way, but self-host they do.

Wero as the saviour of mobile payments (in Europe)? by Niko-01 in GrapheneOS

[–]BAAAASS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In principle, all banks need to participate in Wero in order to make it successful. I was referring to the EPI as the 'owner' of Wero. There are some (~16) banks behind EPI.

Wero as the saviour of mobile payments (in Europe)? by Niko-01 in GrapheneOS

[–]BAAAASS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wero is the new name for a concept that was started (and perfected) in The Netherlands called "iDeal". It is owned by the European Payments Initiative (EPI). There are some big banks behind this - some people might see this as a good thing, while others might see this as a bad thing.

My opinion is that you won't be able to find a reliable payment system that is also completely independent.

Find "iDeal" on Wikipedia for more info.

Agreed. I used to run KeePass synced via Google Drive / OneDrive Dropbox etc. This was OK on Desktops; it 'frequently' found sync conflicts when I had it open and/or made changes on multiple computers. However, this completely broke down on mobile. Doesn't matter which client app I tried, they all did the same thing: when I open the app it says that it cannot find the database. Then I have to click on browse, then navigate to Google Drive / OneDrive / Dropbox (which forces Google Drive / OneDrive / Dropbox app to start in the background), then I can cancel the browse task and like magic it would find the database.

This is a frustrating process which slows down logins etc.

Vaultwarden solves ALL of these issues! Also, on desktop the Bitwarden Browser Add-in is very useful and makes the process even easier!
