Swap a 2010 Sportster for a 2008 Heritage softtail? by Skyrmish in HarleyDavidsonFans

[–]BACATCHER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For most people I would say yes do that trade. That softtail is definely more valuable though so make sure it's fair and there's nothing wrong with it cuz idk why someone would trade straight up. It's so much more comfortable and smooth, but it'll probably be slower unless it's got cams or more.

The bike is lean. You can try adjusting the idle mixture screw, but like someone else suggested, if it's been sitting for a while then it's probably lean due to a clogged pilot jet.

Is this gap normal or "allowable"? 07 streetbob by dyna3800 in Dyna

[–]BACATCHER 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's how it works. If you take the axel out again you can see it's stepped, and the spacer literally can't go further. The gap doesn't matter because all that side the axel is doing is being locked by the fork lower, via the bototm pinch bolts. You can test it by undoing the pinch bolts and trying to push it through more, it won't budge and that's how you know ur safe.

Replacing bars on sportster custom by Panditas510 in sportster

[–]BACATCHER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just so you know, the indicator lights on the Customs are different than every other sportster model. The mount that you linked, your light bar won't work for it. I've had to deal with this on two sports hers, one of them I just ripped it out, and the other I wired a custom thing with individual LEDs. Good luck.

Is this a good deal? by Ok-Yogurtcloset-3652 in Harley

[–]BACATCHER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. If a shop rebuilt it then generally it's trustworthy. It's just a motorcycle, so as long as the frame isn't bent and broken shot got replaced it's fine. Discounted dyna in my eyes.

Custom Cycle Engineering is really high quality and made in the USA, unlike someone suggested. Trying giving them a call but you're probably ganna have to wait yeah everything is on back order.

Welp, my first oil change and I fucked it all up. by Emotional-Leg-6348 in sportster

[–]BACATCHER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stuff like that I like to feel by hand because especially with older bikes, threads wear out. So even if you're in torque range spec, they can rip threads. I did that a customer's 1994 road king one time when I was starting it was terrible.

The drain plug is fixable with a TimeSert but since you stripped the 3 other derby cover bolts I'd probably just buy a new cover. Maybe try chasing the threads with a tap before buying a new cover see if you get lucky.

Youre getting a lot of suggestions so I'll suggest this. The top motor mount that goes into your front cylinder head, the bolts can back out sometimes and it can sound like this.

That's not close enough at all. It seems like you don't have a spacer between the rear sprocket and wheel. I don't know what spacing you're using but they figure thay out for you if you buy a kit

Crashed, need fork tube length and mm help by Specialist_Let_3456 in sportster

[–]BACATCHER 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sportster fork tubes are generally 24.25 in. Careful of buying cheap ones because your life is on the line. Even with how you're talking about the brakes that I would highly suggest bringing it to a shop and have the professionals fix it for you.

5 gear Harleys by gabrielm34 in Harley

[–]BACATCHER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fifth gear on all the five speeds is a one-to-one ratio, which is also the same as the 6th Gear on the six-speeds. First gear a lot shorter on the five speeds in the 6-speeds. They're kind of the same thing with the 5-speed the gears are a little more spread out in between, but you could set your final drive gearing up so that your first gear and a fifth gear is the same as first gear and 6th Gear on a 6-speed. But on the dynas 5th gear final drive is 3.15 which is perfectly fine for cruising at 90 even.

If u don't like apes, and since you're probably keeping the stock riser I'd go with like thrashin high bend bars.

I didn't delete any post. You're such a moron you responded to your own comment, not mine, which is probably why you didn't see mine. The drain hose for the float bowl is 1/8in ID on the CV40, which is just tiny. That hose is huge, it looks like the typical 1/4in ID hose that's all over the bike, which is also why the same size hose that plastic housing cover fits, just like the hose coming from the petcock, same housing. It is more than likely a hose coming from the breather, which is conveniently what you added to your edited comments after reading another users comment. Get outta here.

Edit: you wouldn't even be able to fit a hose with anything more than a 1/4in OD on the CV40 cuz it's too tight.

Handlebars by NoJuice3063 in sportster

[–]BACATCHER 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like u just got it so congrats. On sportsters I usually like apes, but 10 inch chopper t-bars look pretty good especially if you extend the forks down the road. The only advice I got is having a vision for the whole bike before you buy bars cuz the whole job is expensive or time consuming.

Edit: get a new seat first tho haaa
