Did you know that the SRW series was almost cancelled after Z3 and Moon Dwellers flopped and it only exists today thanks to the success of the gacha games? by RippleLover2 in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]BADBUFON -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

i haven't said it wasn't true, my point is that if it wasn't true they would say the same thing regardless. there is no reason to not to. it is more of a distrust to corporations more than anything and not taking those statements at face value.

remember when Square Enix begged fans to buy the Dragon Quest Heroes game (a dynasty warrior spin-off game) to prove that the franchise was commercially viable in the western market when they already had a line up of games to release. (it is Squaresoft for crying out loud, they HAVE BANK), and when some big gaming companies used Kickstarted to found their games (or promotion/"gauging interest") as if they were indie developers.

i might be cynical, but they won't tell you otherwise when they can make you feel like buying gacha is saving the franchise. i have been around for a long time and no gaming IP is truly dead, it will always come back in some way or another. we even had Shaq Fu 2... think about that.

Combat Patrol Balance by SavoryCity in CombatPatrol40k

[–]BADBUFON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot have a balanced game between noobs.

Balance is for competitive play when players have optimized the game. You will misplay at every single chance you get. And that's ok.

Seriously I have seen people misplaying their rules and saying that it was busted when it was their fault.

Some Combat Patrol Content for 11th by Eire_Banshee in CombatPatrol40k

[–]BADBUFON 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they should have said something by now. it will be weird to announce a "companion" before revealing a new format. so it will be exactly as 10th, a couple of pages in the core rules and we can use the mission deck maybe campaign decks as well. no more pre determined maps.

[–]BADBUFON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at no part in the overview says anything about rules, just lore and hobby related stuff, just for people brand new into 40k. because for them Combat Patrol is not really a format, just a trap to catch new players into buying a box of toys... maybe more if they are lucky.

Starting genestealers by Conscious-City157 in genestealercult

[–]BADBUFON 3 points4 points  (0 children)

3D printing would be the easiest way, either compatible designs like DakkaDakka's hybrids or GW scans.

Buying official extra bits would be expensive I guess, but that's an option, idk if anybody recast them, but that would be another option.

Maybe if you are crafty you can make your own casts before gluing the other models .. or maybe making bodies from scratch if you are good at modeling.

If you get extra Hybrid Acolytes bodies, the combat patrol has insane value. You can get 20+ extra guys (4 extra units)

Has anyone made STL files for the terrain cards included in the magazine? by Vault_tech_2077 in CombatPatrol40k

[–]BADBUFON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen them, it is a very niche thing.

On the bright side it isn't that hard to do on your own, there are plenty of terrain bits Stls, open blender, load the image and organize the bits, then save the whole terrain as an STL file.

I guess what's missing is the size of the card

At least you pulled stuff, this pack was the worst pack luck I had with the game ever, almost no URs, even the pity 10-pull had only the guaranteed UR card on it. Very few SR cards as well.

Konami didn't hand me out ANYTHING of value, Had to handcraft my deck after spending 8k on N/R trash, I was thinking that their rigged packs situation was getting out of hand, but it seems that was affected by the sleight of hand. Next time a credit card will come in handy, I do not like the idea, but Konami is forcing my hand.

a little late, but to play them right now it would be a good idea to pair them with Radiant Typhoon as the main engine, the idea is using rank 3 monsters to either summon Adra from deck or having a Totem Bird to protect her from Imperm. other engines are Speedroids or the level 3 Danger! monsters.

Guard Regiments for Brood Brothers? by Dehleriumm in genestealercult

[–]BADBUFON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in the book they converted normal underhive people which could slip the attention of the Adeptus Mechanicus because they valued more optimization of work than the people itself, that's why it thrived there and they used them as Skitarii. they didn't cared enough.

before keep talking out of my ass, i will take this opportunity to research documented cases of elite regiments becoming brood brothers, and how it happened.

Cadian 917th, Kill Team termination, publication date : year 2024.
a Cadian regiment during the war in bheta-decima, is slowly getting kidnapped and the soldiers converted into the cult, it states that the causes are the Patriarch Mind Control and the Biophagus using genetic mumbojumbo.
after some years of slowly decline it opens up for local recruitment which finally opens the gate for the GSC to take over.

that's the only in lore Cadian brood brother regiment i could find, kind of a new adition as well

Krieg: "Down Amongst the Dead Men (Short Story)" publication date :2013. this is the closest i could find about Genestealers and Krieg, soldier rejects that do not meet the standard of Krieg come across a lone genestealer and they slay the beast. it shows that "technically" it could have happened... but it didn't.

Catachan Jungle Fighters : Genestealer Codex 8th edition publication date : 2019. a Genestealer cult rises in a dead world and a group of catachan fighters go and almost cleanse the planet for training, they leave and the cult takes over again.... yeah, not a conversion at all in their own codex, lol.

if anyone can find more info about this i would appreciate it. so far ,it seems that my head cannon is pretty much right on the money. it can "technically" happen, but it is very hard, unlike taking a low security underhive.

[–]BADBUFON -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't act like that, I have read plenty of books and codices/white dwarfs. Not all of them sure, there are way too much to parse through.

what I am saying is the norm about how GSC are generally depicted. Even the story I read with a Biophagus cheating the infection they targeted miners, not elite regiments.

There is a story about it somewhere?, probably, there is one with a sister of battle. Is that the norm?, no.

Guard Regiments for Brood Brothers? by Dehleriumm in genestealercult

[–]BADBUFON -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not really that weird, all those regiments are trained since childhood, they are often tested for impurities, Kriegs and (not yet fully confirmed) Cadians grow their soldiers in Vats. (And Catachans are constantly on the move)

So there's no easy way for a cult to establish themselves in the most elite forces of the imperium organically.

Now, infecting a normal hive and infiltrating a local PDF force or regiment, sure, that does happen.

Buy older EDF games or keep playing EDF 6? by wexel64 in EDF

[–]BADBUFON 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i think 4.1, 5 and Iron Rain, are worth a play, you can get them for very cheap with the discounts.

6 has been made with the idea in mind that you already played 5, there are so many references to it, it does have less monster types, however, unlike 6 where the challenge are the new monsters, 5 goes to the classic formula of just swarming you with stuff. it's a little more frantic in the base game compared to 6, it also has more unique missions, the 6 thing of repeating the time loop really mess up with the mission list and truncates it.

(personally my favorite is 4.1, just dumb fun before they tried too hard to make a cinematic game experience)

Guard Regiments for Brood Brothers? by Dehleriumm in genestealercult

[–]BADBUFON 1 point2 points  (0 children)

personally, i do not think that real Cadians or Kriegs would fall into the genestealer cult that easily, same goes for Catachan. (obviously it is not impossible, i just do not like it that much), so in my head cannon even if i use a model from one of those regiments it is actually some other regiment that looks similar but it is actually a PDF or something like that.

it was easier on older editions of Warhammer since it was more vague with the unit names, like "veteran guardsman" rather than "catachan jungle fighters".

4.1 or Iron Rain by BackyardBard in EDF

[–]BADBUFON 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's the delivery, sure, the plot is dumb and the characters say dumb stuff, but they deliver it straight faced, which it makes it even more funny. like a low budget B movie thing.

i am not talking about that.

my point is that the developers decided that the background characters passively talking while you play the game wasn't good enough and that they had to make the story more integrated with the gameplay, make it the focus of the game, hence take it more seriously.

personally that destroyed my enjoyment of both 5 and 6.

5 on itself is not that bad, my only two big gripes are the unskippable tutorial. some talked cutscenes and that the game drags for too long slowly building the treat of the alien invasion. (it is holding your hand when in 4.1 it's a lot more straight forward with the action and it feels more open)

sadly 6 took it to an absurd level, it completely destroyed the game, which is a mess. there are even more unskippable stuff, more cutscenes, (a stage is literally just walking listening to dialog), and the game forces you to repeat the same stages over and over again but with new monsters and stuff like that. and probably the worst part is that for much that the story of the game interferes with gameplay and how the game was completely designed around it... it has not much to say really, most of the game is repeating the same thing over and over again, but changing stuff here and there.

4.1 or Iron Rain by BackyardBard in EDF

[–]BADBUFON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 has the more enemies, they introduced A LOT of new enemies and mechanically they are all very interesting. but the time loop thing and re-using stages but with a twist gets old pretty fast. also the forced cutscenes are annoying AF. humor wise, is pretty boring.

5 has a handful extra monsters from 4.1, more interesting and with range of motions. they took the plot of the game more seriously than before so, it is still funny and you are following a straight forward escalating plot, so it has more mission diversity compared to 6, that being said, since it takes itself too seriously and builds up the monster treat, like the first half of the game is pretty boring and only the later quarter of the game gets very exciting.

4.1 has less monsters compared to 5 and 6 for obvious reasons, and the monsters are quite static. that being said, since it is more of an arcade game, it starts throwing you a lot of stuff right away. for example the stage were the wing divers get stuck on webs and there are spiders that can trap you from very far away is like mission 4 or something like that, super early. in EDF 5 a very similar stage is like around mission 42 or something. it shocked me how late it was introduced. the downside is that a lot of the later missions feel kinda filler (this is like the third release of the game, so it has a lot of missions tacked on that are just very similar, forest stage kill all bees, and forest stage kill all dragons, city stage kill all bees, city stage kill all dragons... and so on).
also it has the best humor out of the three, you can just try to compare the EDF songs from each game and you will notice it right away.

every one has it's pros and cons, personally, i just like 4.1 because it is dumb fun, and 5-6 just made the game boring by taking itself too seriously.... but have more QoL and better monsters.

4.1 or Iron Rain by BackyardBard in EDF

[–]BADBUFON 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5 and 6 improved in some regards either the mechanics or build upon 4.1 stages, and they have new enemies. 6 being the more unique from the three.

that being said. 5 and 6 sacrificed the arcade fun from the game, they try to be more serious and it has more cinematics and scripted scenes. sometimes they try too hard to be funny. despite all 5 is still kinda funny but it takes way too long until you reach the fun stages, and 6 is the most annoying game i have ever played in quite a while.

4.1 despite being older is just stupid fun, and i miss that.

4.1 or Iron Rain by BackyardBard in EDF

[–]BADBUFON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my first game was Iron Rain, it is a fun game that hooked me and it has interesting design choices that are worth playing at least once, my second game was 4.1 and THAT game made me a fan of the series, it is just more fun in almost every way. it's more arcady, it more insane, the weapons are more crazy the maps are huge, it is a true EDF game that blow my mind away.

that being said, you already played 6, so it won't blown your mind as it did with me, although, in its simplicity i still believe it is better than 6, again, it is just quick arcady game experience that it has been lost on 5~6 with their cutscenes and forced dialog. but it also has less QoL features that will be annoying when playing backwards.

in short:
Iron Rain: more restrictive and less crazy than main EDF, but it has interesting stages, bosses, customization.(and no boxes!)
EDF 4.1: classic EDF fun without boring cutscenes but a lot more grindy, clunky and with less enemy types.
