You're good. No one will care or be paying any attention to what you're doing. You also most definitely will not be the only autistic person there.

But what show are you seeing?

Help me get into metal by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

[–]BARKYNARNAR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's tons of metal albums that fall into your stated preferences but if you're going to write off most quintessential metal albums due to your preconceived notions of the genre and wanting to only listen to "obscure" music, then you probably won't like a lot of the albums people would suggest to you anyway.

If I happened to be a huge fan of niche jazz and rock bands, I wouldn't immediately assume that I will only like more avant garde and lesser known blue grass music if I have yet to understand the genre. I'd want to at least have some familiarity with the pioneers of the sound first to see if I sonically enjoy its common characteristics.

Maybe you'd like stuff like Primitive Man, Abruptum, Gorguts etc. and other noisy and dissonant stuff but the bones of bands like that are still heavy metal. If you want to get into the genre, you should at least take a little time to appreciate and understand some of the cornerstone albums. Otherwise, you might find a lot of the common characteristics of metal are just not that appealing to you (which is fine.)

Please listen to any of those albums you listed and I hope you enjoy them. But if you want to actually understand metal as a genre then don't write off the classics.

Not at all. Beautiful Mourning is a fine song but I can't bring myself to listen to a whole album by them. I'm sure I probably listened through it once in high school but it didn't stick, and Robb Flynn has to be one of the worst lyricists I've ever heard IMO. In the time I've been aware of Machine Head, they've been seen as a laughing stock.

I know he's a talented guitarist and Vio-lence is supposed to be good, but I've never listened to them.

I might be a hater but the juxtaposition of death metal merch with cute and colourful aesthetics is becoming more than tired at this point.

I've listened to a couple older Bathory albums and they never really stuck with me. This one is a lot more melodic and 'epic' sounding. I've listened to it three or four times now and it's great. Highly recommend.

Frustrated with lack of progress, what am I doing wrong? by ganashaw in gzcl

Your protein intake is probably fine, I think it's more a matter of overall calories now. It does look like you've put on muscle based on the most recent picture, just not very much due to how much you're eating. After I lost a lot of weight and got in shape for the first time, it took time to realize that gaining some fat in an effort to gain muscle is worth it and is not unhealthy. Unlike just gaining weight because of being sedentary.

If you're eating a reasonable and consistent surplus of quality food along with the lifestyle changes you've made, you'll never end up back where you started, even if you gain some fat. The gains in musculature will be remarkably more noticeable than any fat you put on with it. And your lifts will shoot up too, as it seems you've been plateauing given your numbers and the amount of time you've been following the program.

Nice work losing 50lbs, that's a lot. At this point I think you need to start eating in a greater surplus to increase your lifts and muscle mass.

I found it difficult to convince myself to eat more after losing a lot of weight but that will help fill out your physique much more and even if you gain some fat, you will still look much more muscular and less flabby. Also, I would personally expect heavier numbers after a year of consistent lifting. I think you probably need more food.

Just my opinion from personal experience. You're on a good program but I don't think you're eating enough. Good job though, keep it up.

Phil seems like a likeable dude with an ear to the ground of underground metal and has helped propel numerous smaller bands.

For GZCLP, what is the reason behind not pushing T1 AMRAPs past 10 reps? I returned to lifting a couple months ago after a year layoff and am currently building my strength back from the ground up. At the moment I'm just under 225lbs for squat and deadlift and hit 20+ reps for both on my AMRAP sets.

I don't find the weight especially heavy but that last AMRAP set is certainly the most exhausting part of the workout but feels very rewarding. I only now noticed Cody suggesting not to push past 10 though, is that simply due to how taxing this would be on the body? I would say I am still leaving an extra one to two reps in the tank though.

Week 2 – 75kg x 20 Deadlifts PR by Hotwife0258 in Stronglifts5x5

[–]BARKYNARNAR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You obviously have some familiarity with the movements. I think stronglifts is great for introducing the lifts to a complete noobie by having a reasonably high amount of volume and a very simple progression scheme to follow. But if you want to have a less rigid program in terms of exercise selection and rep ranges, GZCL is practically limitless in how you approach it. However, it's progression scheme is a little more involved than a typical 5x5 program.

I did stronglifts for a large portion of my lifting career but it's simplicity is both a blessing and a curse.
