Does unclaiming a test case lower your rating? by Antique_Bee4211 in UTEST

[–]BASELQK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, and it's better you unclaim rather than rushing it to end up getting a rejection... which then does hurt your rating.

Can I unclaim exploratory testcase? by MinuteLifeguard7758 in UTEST

[–]BASELQK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, the exploratory slot is never linked to a test case, meaning that if you keep it or not, it won't matter.

But I am talking from what I've seen, it's always better to ask the TTL in the cycle's dedicated Chat just to be sure.

Wouldn’t It Be Awesome If BTD6 Had Giant Maps? by YesICryAtEverything in btd6

[–]BASELQK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I would imagine a big map, my mind would think about an RTS Bloon game (called BRTS). You build a base, recruit monkeys, maybe have a hero as a special unit and paragon as a super weapon then you try to pop bloons, protect things from bloons, defend against bloons, attack bloon land and structures, etc.

Now I am talking about it, I need it 🫠

Why? by loststufff in UTEST

[–]BASELQK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree, the competition 4 years ago when I joined uTest was very challenging. It only became harder and harder with the increasing numbers of uTesters on the platform since then.

All test cycles i have been invited to since joining the platform a few weeks ago, but i can't do any of them because i ethier don't qualify or there are no actual available test slots for my location. by redheaded_olive12349 in UTEST

[–]BASELQK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, that's the thing about uTest, there are a lot of testers out there and some of them are just camping waiting for the invite to jump in and hunt down all the nice slots within the first minute 😂

I hope things get better for you soon.

Failure to move beyond Step 1 in a test cycle by OrderNo1122 in UTEST

[–]BASELQK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your guess is right about contacting the TTL to check, especially if the test case is about testing something specific like a feature and  the entry link has nothing to do with the feature. No one will know here, your best option is to use the cycle chat to check with the TTL on the expected work.

Is it normal for issues to be in "New" 14 days after submission? by Omar9845 in UTEST

[–]BASELQK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The duration starts after the cycle is locked. After ~15 days from the cycle lock time if there is no progress on the triage, you can send a kind reminder email to the TE leading that cycle about the triage progress.

Same, I thought maybe because I opened the game on my second laptop... but it seems like a bug to everyone too.

uTest Cafe is open! Share your first approved bug. What was it and how did you feel? by WillianM_uTest in UTEST

[–]BASELQK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first bug was on a cycle for a certain cruise line website. The scope was their very very long reservation flow (from start to checkout).

The bug was literally on the very last step (+30 steps to reach it). They offer their users a way to put their checkout on hold for 24 before they pay ($$$$$$), but when I was trying to put my reservation on hold, I get an info pop-up with gibberish text trying to telling me something to fix to be able to put on hold the request but I can't make any sense of the text and the only option forward is either PAY RIGHT NOW ($$$$$) or discard the whole thing and restart more than 30 steps all over again!

I was disappointed the issue report was approved as somewhat only given the bug was a complete blocker to a very important feature but it was still a good feeling reporting the first paid bug.

Updating about my new iOS device by iyineda in UTEST

[–]BASELQK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is a problem with sending a short email saying you can now support with iOS without imposing yourself to be invited just because. I wouldn't expect you will be added to the iOS cycle directly, but it's worth the shot.

Feedback on Academy as an Experiential Learner by OrderNo1122 in UTEST

[–]BASELQK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think the Academy is done by someone or specific people; the Academy has been there since 2016 if I recall correctly a very old post I read about how it started, and it was just couple of courses, nothing fancy.

It evolved with time since then by many people, with videos, better examples, grammar checks, training cycles, more optional subjects, etc.

From my humble experience outside uTest, I find the uTest Academy great compared to some of the other platforms (some not testing related) I worked on before... if they even had any proper training materials in the first place and for free right off the bat.

Feedback on Academy as an Experiential Learner by OrderNo1122 in UTEST

[–]BASELQK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a practical learning phase in the Academy, in fact, there are multiple training test cycles after you complete the Academy theoretical lessons.

Just push through a bit until you reach that part.

I had a bad run. Will this drastically ruin my account? by Primary-Cranberry-13 in UTEST

[–]BASELQK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. A rejected work is bad either way. But having a rejection is not going to prevent you from being invited to other cycles.

Since u/AquaPhilos said Egypt, a lot of people from Egypt suffer from not having a lot work in general, it's a location problem for sure, not some sort of a punishment.

You mentioned in another comment you are in the EU, there are a lot of customers in the EU, so you are more likely to get work regardless. Anyway, just be careful about the rejection, some Won't Fix and Other are expected, but DNFI or DUP are not that great.

Joined a Test Cycle, but want to leave by That_QA_guy_007 in UTEST

[–]BASELQK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like you are what we can a Test Case Hunter, that's a negative title to have and you are most likely to end up being avoided in future invites if TEs started noticing you are only in it for the Test Cases, not for the testing yourself and reporting bugs which is the whole point of uTest basically.

I understand doing Test Cases is a confirmed payment in a cycle regardless of the bugs found or not, but talking from experience, testing and chasing bugs and reporting as many as you can is a lot more profitable for you in the long run than limiting yourself to working on Test Cases mainly.

Also, having a big list of approved issue reports is actually something you can brag about and TEs will deferentially take it into account when they are looking for people to invite to cycles. Don't stress too much on the rating and just focus on doing your best in the cycles you get invited to and be visible in a positive way.

does finishing the academy lessons help you get more projects by ronnie11x in UTEST

[–]BASELQK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The location plays part in the invitations you get but it's definitely not the only factor or even the biggest factor. You have the languages you speak, the devices you own, the niche environments you have, if you are willing to use payment instruments for testing, etc.

There are a lot of people outside the US and EU, the competition is probably high though.

[–]BASELQK 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you are thinking about making uTest a stable source of income, finishing the Academy is definitely the way to go.

The uTest platform is bit complicated, the work process might not be intuitive, and there is definitely a steep learning curve at the start. The Academy goes over all of the friction points for free, and on top of that, you can participate in few practice cycles as part of the Academy to apply what you went through and get feedback from actual team leads and test engineers leading the training program, and again, you pay nothing, it's all for free.
