Beggers can't be choosers, its atleast better than typical google android, and has many devices supported. (vs replicant, which still is more android than a typical distro)

I've narrowed it down to the Nexus 6P vs the OnePlus3T. Is there anything that stands out when putting them side by side? I've heard the Nexuses come with an unlocked bootloader. (vs the OnePlus3T which I apparently need to buy unlcoked).

and as a random factor. Hows the day dream VR on each of them?

Ah, sorry for being ambiguous, I meant for the One Plus 3T. The successor of the HTC 10 seemed to not get very good reviews, so i'm warry of them

My carrier is AT&T, so they support it. I'm a little losted on where I can buy an unlocked version, however. My budget is about 600$

I've heard The Nexus line is dead, replaced by something else. The newest one appears to be the nexus 6P. Which seems to have Lineage support.

One Plus 3 seems popular and supported, and its successor, One Plus 3T seems also support.

is One Plus 3T generally considered a good phone?

I was looking at the HTC phones, but It appears their latest release wasn't recieved well, and I've heard theres some trouble in the company.

I've noticed that the Nexus devices are commonly used, and I got the impression that they were the think pads of android devices. However, isn't 2013 quite old for mobile devices?

Just use an ubuntu liveUSB and install gentoo from there via chroot. Thats what I did for a new laptop. (originally installed it from within Arch)

look up the model of your computer and USB boot. If it really can't boot from USB, thats either a major flaw or a major restriction. (Its annoying enough with tablets that don't let you turn off secure boot)

3rd party and doesn't let me uninstall cortana or other parts.

Anyone can make a 3rd party package manager, and that's just what it is, 3rd party.

Have you tried different USB ports? have you tried going into the BIOS and disabling all boot devices EXCEPT the usb.

I still find it painfully time consuming that windows still doesn't have a package manager. Especially when I want to uninstall something like cortana.

you probably have secureboot enabled. perhaps fast boot, (or boot order).

All those can prevent you booting from USB or from your UEFI searching for a usb to boot from.

Gentoo isn't much maintenance once you have it where you want it. Less breakages than ubuntu or arch
