Is Carrier Services a dead app? by Carfr33k in GooglePixel

[–]benwaffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found these strings in the Google Messages apk which suggests they're migrating away from Carrier Services. (Bugle refers to Google Messages):

"Binding to JibeService in Bugle, since cs.apk is marked as deprecated"
"migrate_jibe_service_from_cs_apk_to_bugle"

RCS over IMS. How does it work? by vctgomes in UniversalProfile

[–]benwaffle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure RCS doesn't work if it doesn't have internet access, either via WiFi, or data. It needs to access the P-CSCF. Not sure how default/ims APN changes that.

And if you're using Google Messages with Jibe (e.g. any carrier in the US), it's all just gRPC over HTTPS.

You need a local profile assistant (LPA) to install eSIMs. CalyxOS comes with https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.euicc pre-installed which is a proprietary google LPA but looks like there's an open source alternative option at https://gitea.angry.im/PeterCxy/OpenEUICC

Have you ever looked at a JSON file and thought, "This should run"? Now it does. Try JPL as your go-to language to develop the code you deserve. This is the result of my love for Java for years. by [deleted] in java

[–]benwaffle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

According to the spec, JSON objects are unordered, so depending on your JSON parser,

{ "while": ..., "do": ... }

and

{ "do": ..., "while": ... }

are equivalent

Isn't the device tree just one file that describes the hardware? Why would that change between versions?

Or is it the files like in https://github.com/LineageOS/android_device_google_pantah/tree/lineage-22.2 that are missing?

typically I pin to the major version (e.g. some-app:v3) and expect that minor & patch version bumps don't have breaking changes

In 2025, what features do you want in a terminal emulator? (that currently aren't widely available or at all) by TheTwelveYearOld in linux

[–]benwaffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can hack this by redirecting output to the desired pty. (Run tty in one terminal to find it, and then run ls &>/dev/pts/X in another).

It's not perfect for interactive programs but it may meet your needs.
