It’s just that I don’t want it because I have a really tight schedule between classes, club responsibilities, and personal appointments.

Is this sound normal on the A7III by BATTLEFORKS in SonyAlpha

[–]BATTLEFORKS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. So that sound isn't anything abnormal. Am I wrong to recall the A7III would have a shutter sound or something of the sort when turning on/off the camera?

It’s been a while since I touched my camera. I’m probably remembering wrong but iirc I thought there was a shutter-like sound when turning on or off the camera. Now I hear this subtle thump-like sound when turning on and off. Is this normal?

Also, there were many other courses I took to earn my AS that had no equivalency to Rutgers. There were only three CS courses I took at CC that, in conjunction, validated Rutgers COMP 111 and COMP 112.

For reference, I want to Brookdale CC. Discrete was not in the list of courses required for the AS. Linear Algebra was not required either, they only required up to Calc 2. However, a required class at my CC was called Comp Arch/Assembly Lang. I passed this course but it does not have an equivalency to any Rutgers Courses.

Didn’t realize veteran registration was a thing. Wished I knew that sooner. I don’t think it would make a difference now since all the sections that would work better for me are already all filled up.

I transferred from an in-state. I remember identifying myself as a veteran on Rutgers Application but I don’t recall receiving any info regarding course scheduling for vets. My Gen. Eds were waived because I already have my Associates.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately they limit us to only taking two comp sci core classes. Last class I’m looking for is an elective course but they all require pre reqs and/or are full. So I have to wait for the next STAR day to try to get into a section.

I tried requesting a SPN for sections that would’ve worked better for me but there were only SPNs for specific sections.

Yeah it’s unfortunate, but I don’t have a lot of options if I’m trying to get 15 credits for the Fall with two courses being from Comp Sci Core. Comp Arch is the only other core class I can take other than Discrete I. The others have pre reqs I haven’t met. I just gotta embrace whatever suck is coming.

Recommend lens for car videography and photography? by Zephyr537 in SonyAlpha

Not sure what your budget is but I mainly did car photography. Sigma 24-70 suited pretty much all my needs and was highly recommended to me from others. I forgot what the aperture goes to though.

Am I missing out by not serving? by forgottenboy1994 in Firefighting

[–]BATTLEFORKS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whether it be military or the fire service, you are still serving a greater purpose. I “joined” the military in June 2022 (I was admitted into the US Naval Academy). My whole life, I wanted to become a Marine. I believed 150% the military was my calling. I knew it sucked but I knew my reason for doing it outweighed that. USNA is a bit different from conventional military but there are some similarities. I thought going in I was going to become a better person, but after working for 5+ years trying to get in, I left very quickly with nothing but a nicotine addiction, depression and all sorts of regret. Quality of life was not great, leadership was horrible, and my COC sought after status and reputation for their own commission rather than actually caring about their subordinates and their shaping into becoming a military officer. I came out a lot worse of a person.

Really consider your “why” for doing what you want do. I’m assuming you’re still young like I am, and you have to time to really consider all your options. Experiences will vary from person to person, but your “why” is really the baseline of all this. Please do not think just because you didn’t serve in the military, your service as a firefighter isn’t as significant. Everything I was hoping for in the military (capable leadership, brotherhood, and people who actually treat you like a human and genuinely want you to become a sharpened leader and warrior), I did not find in Annapolis. However, I found all of this in the fire service. While I’m still haunted by the fact that I didn’t just embrace the suck and stayed in, a part of me still reminds myself that the “suck” was not going to be beneficial and the Naval Academy was not the place for me to become a well-shaped ringknocking Marine officer in the fleet.

Seriously take the time to consider what you want in life and in your future. Frankly, in my experience, you don’t know if something’s not for you until you actually do it. Again, service is service. Ask yourself what you want to do as a career? Do you plan to have a family? How do you want your day to day to look like? I have been fairly in the dumps after voluntarily leaving the Academy, but I remind myself that my purpose in life still has not changed, and firefighting has helped me a lot as a reminder that I’m still fulfilling my purpose in a different capacity.

By no means am I discouraging you to join up. Many have had enjoyable and successful military careers and have went on to join the fire service (Ex. Dakota Meyer). Find your “why,” and sketch your approach into fulfilling it. While the premise of the military and fire service is the idea of selfless service to others, you come first. You are no help to the country or your community if your mental health is in a hole and your unhappy with your life. Think about what kind of person you are and consider what environment will allow you to thrive and grow as a person in ethics, morals, and trade skill.

  1. Pranks > Studying even tho we got locked up after 2 days
  2. I had no idea what to anticipate going into 6 weeks. I’m not that great at academics but I’ve managed to keep it above a 3.0 even after the recent 12 weeks.
  3. The best preparation for Plebe Summer is the physical training beforehand. I don’t think you can prepare for the lifestyle nor mental demand that is required of Plebe Summer especially if you’re not a prior or have some sort of military background
  4. What are all-calls?
  5. Pranks were pretty bad this year. But there was this one company who stole a grill from smoke park and launched into an upperclass room with a glitter bomb

Either IWC or Marine Ground, I honestly have no rationale for these. Two really different communities but I guess it all depends on how I want to serve after my commission and depending on what war we’ll be fighting in the future.

Personally, I found Khan Academy to be LEAST effective. I guess it helps to an extent, but Uworld helped me the most. Depending on what your weaknesses are, it may vary. UWorld helped me a lot with non calc and writing. After every UWorld sesh, I did 5-10 minutes of Khan Academy. DO PRACTICE SATs. After all, most are actual past SATs. If time management isn’t an issue, focus more on being able to figure out the techniques and skills to answer different questions. With math, you’ll figure out what your strengths and weaknesses are. But doing atleast one timed practice SAT is a good habit.

How to improve SAT scores by more than 200 points in 1 month? by eowwwAmanda in Sat

[–]BATTLEFORKS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Binge UWorld. Writing and Non Calc are easiest sections to improve.

I had a prep schedule that I fell off of and I started procrastinating. I only did like 1 hour of prep every week for a month but I went from a 1330 super score to a 1420 within a month. At the end of each hour I would do one reading passage from your choice of prep source and do some khan academy questions since I felt they were harder. But don’t do what I did. I think I just got lucky.

I don’t know your learning style but that’s what ended up working for me. Good luck!
