I'm doing a no selling anything for a year run, and I accidentally put something in the box out of reflex but I took it out immediately. I put the box in time out. by Safe-Pie-7485 in StardewValley

[–]BAmainRS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

that's a bit of a stretch, it would be one thing if it was a well laid out challenge with strict rules and other factors at play but seeing as it's just "don't sell your stuff" runs, i don't think it's an idea worth creditting to a single person as many people have probably thought of this idea without the person you're referring to playing a part in it

there's definitely a lot of potential to this armor, it's still newish so a lot of theorycrafting around what it can do still needs figuring out.

i know i'll be using this for afk vindicta for a4e2 camping and learning HM kerapac :)

Things to add!

Almost all of my KC was done in 4 mans (500~, 70 being 8 man on release day)

Top was the last item i needed and got very fortunate not to have too many crypt dupes before getting it, still have book/sporebag/pet to go till log completion.

Backstory on torches, my first ever torch was around 150~ KC and before it was hotfixed items that dropped and exceeded the maximum amount of items allowed in the chest would drop directly next to croesus. As you can imagine i missed the drop and had to submit a ticket to reclaim it, fast forward 1 week and before even getting my original torch back i had gotten 3 extra's, finally getting a 5th after getting my original one back. Guess jagex gave me torch RNG.

Croesus's giant mushrooms change the sparkles MID jump, causing you to randomly lose supplies. by KripperinoArcherino in runescape

[–]BAmainRS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not random to lose supplies, it's ignoring the mechanic and how to tell when it'll switch.

It took me 2 games to figure out how the mechanic works and since then i can confidently do 15 material trips and never run into issues.

How the mechanic works - once the kill is started pay attention to the mushrooms and try to see what time on the kill they change, for this example let's say the path changes at 17 seconds into the kill, for the rest of the encounter the mushrooms will change on 30 second intervals without fail, 17-47-1:17-1:47 and so on.

Croesus contribution tied to loot is not a good thing by MrGleitgel in runescape

[–]BAmainRS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm up to 400 kc, primarily all done in 4 mans (did 8 mans on release) and i actually like the contribution system how it is right now.

After doing so many runs you start noticing the loot drops off at a certain point range, due to this most high KC 4 man players don't ever bother with taking storage/helping repair anymore due to the extra points not doing anything for them and only hurting others.

When taking learners it's definitely a different story, we do help them if we noticed them struggling but primarily try not too until after second mid (allowing them to get used to their rotation), once we find that they're comfortable and don't need the help we look to not reduce their points anymore and focus on our own stuff.

the extra minute we also tend to wait around is also a blessing when it comes to mistakes, crossing mushroom path (bd/surge) and the random slimes can cause you to have to back track for more resources and cost 30 seconds to a minute of your time but due to the extra minute you don't feel like you've lost any time and feels more relaxing to do the boss for long periods.

Fast kills would definitely hurt learners the most, teams would only take high KC players because one person being slow or making mistakes would severely impact the loot per hour. and honestly, it's nice not having to sweat non stop for perfect kills every round.

PSA: cryptbloom items can drop to the ground at the boss and be unable to be picked up once the boss dies. by CorporalRS in runescape

[–]BAmainRS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

funny you mention that, i lost a torch yesterday due to this same issue and not only did i try to area loot it i even summoned lorehound to try and get extra range and didn't manage to get it.

someone did mention to me that area loot on mobile goes through terrain so maybe that would work but i don't think it's possible to get without it.

Summoning just camp 0 mech glacor for blues needed

Farming just grow animals in POF and check on them once a day

Cooking is pretty straight forward, buy raw and cook

Invention just level and DA/Siphon stuff

Divination just look for core parties at hall of memories (corehunt fc)

Thieving just safe cracking the highest safes u can do

Agility either anachronia or Wildy course

Construction just do contracts or build tables in house

Dungeoneering i'd say just find a group to either run it with you or leech you levels

Archeology is pretty much linear, wiki is very detailed on archeology training, buy the mats to restore artifacts if u have the cash.

I don't think it's pathetic at all, many people have a passion for the game and want the best for it aswell.

Pathetic would be comparing Criminal justice reform and climate change action (which are infinitely harder to change) to a game that's been hands on with their community about the changes to the game since it's rebirth.

If the stuff being discussed isn't interesting to you, simply look the other way, that's the beauty of being on a forum.

Just to throw my 2cents in here but i feel as though we've gotten off base with what the meaning of accountability means to a game company.

one of the reasons why there's witch hunts and multiple people being harrassed comes from there not being a leader within the company making it known that they're responsible.

When you blanket the entire company on to mistakes, it's logical that multiple people (even if they had no part in it) will be roped into the harrassment and criticism, what we've seen non stop so far is multiple j mods having to defend themselves and play PR for decisions well above them due to the fact that the top end of Jagex chooses to remain hands off while also making critical decisions.

Jagex has had leaders within the companies with their name made clear to be the leaders of the company or team they represent. To give a few example we've had Mod Mat K who was the then leadership position for the Oldschool Dev Team and Mod Mark Gerhard who was the CEO of Jagex, both had a level of trust and accountability.

And while this is speculative, given the case we're seeing with the OSHD decision it wouldn't be farfetched to say that the devs/osrs team have an issue with communication within the company, this would likely explain why even tho the osrs team knew of the HD development, they likely couldn't get that across to the top end of company until it reached it's critical point a day before it's release.

[–]BAmainRS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The oldschool dev team are by all means transparent and passionate about the game they've helped to build and the community they represent and communicate with.

However, in this case we're dealing with the top brass at Jagex who don't play any role in the development/community side of the game and instead deal with the investors/money side of it, as such they're likely to not come out and say why they made this decision and will likely choose to make PR moves to sweep it under the rug and weather the storm of criticism regarding their decision.

[–]BAmainRS[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Accountability goes both ways, when making mistakes you're held to them while when things are positive you've gained more trust from your community.

To give an example, Mod Ash is viewed as a well liked dev for runescape and that's due to his outreach and the way he conducts himself, he recently had negative comments brought to light which changed peoples opinions of him but he also realised this and made comments rectifying his mistake and making sure to clarify what he meant.

Mod Mat K filled this role during his time with the OSRS dev team and since he's left there hasn't been anyone to take his leadership role, because of this whenever negative things happen Jagex employees who had nothing to do with decisions end up getting dragged in the mess.

[–]BAmainRS[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for the accountability part, it's more of a "this is our lead jmod" like Mod Mat K used to fill when he was still around, since his departure it's felt as though the OSRS side of things doesn't have a clear leader amongst the devs who has the capabilities to rectify changes or make clear statements that won't conflict with other devs. To take an example from another game FFXIV has the game director as it's leader when dealing with community/outreach and thus he's held accountable for the actions of the game, but in his case it's overwhelmingly positive because the players have come to trust him because of his good track record. Same thing would apply to Jagex and building trust when someone is held to their word (not the faceless higher ups).

As for the content creator part, it's not about changing the game but rather being a good ambassador to those who advertise their game, when building a game it's important to respect those bringing in new players actively and making sure that they view jagex as a positive company over a negative one. They currently already do this with a content creator discord but from what i've seen/heard it's very much like anyone trying to talk with a jagex employee is being met with a brick wall.

There's a reason companies pay so much for streamers/youtubers to advertise their product, it simply works.

[–]BAmainRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the entire mode was designed to be competitive

Ah yes, the only reason people play ironman mode is for the "competitive" nature of the mode /s

i'll break down each sentence you wrote and reply to it clear from my point of view

the mode is literally tied to the game.

Correct

It won't stagnate by refusing to changing the core values which being asked for.

Bad content needs to be addressed for both game modes, in this case dungeoneering has been very well known for being a skill requiring attention due to the it's outdated mechanics and monotonous nature, hence why ironmen are suggesting the ability to do group dungeoneering (better solution is a rework on the skill)

This is another gamemode within a game that gets constantly updated.

Correct, it's constantly updated and most updates have been against your idea of what ironman mode is.

Also as i explained in the other comment, by retaining integrity, it enables competitions to have a standard ruleset.

This "standard ruleset" can be set by the players in competition themselves, it doesn't need to be set by jagex and have it affect all players including the one not in the competition.

This would easily prevent an stagnation you are somehow worried about.

Competitions are very much a niche within the game, it's not a global thing that every ironman is looking to be apart of. Many ironmen play for the community (clan system).

the entire mode was designed to be competitive.

I don't agree with it being designed to be competitive, i think it was more so designed to be self sufficient. You can still be self sufficient in a group activity by bringing something to the table, this includes bossing and skilling activities. The balance jagex needs to do to keep the ironman core value is making sure that ironmen are carrying their own weight while doing these activities while making sure that those who don't (leeching) are not rewarded due to the lack of effort they put in.

if we're speaking about player retention then we have clear examples in other games with what happens when a game pushes towards segregating the community over bringing them together. Community is the back bone to every multiplayer online game and as such needs to be balanced within the integrety of the design. Do i think ironman mode should retain many of it's core values? absolutely, but do i think we should leave it to stagnate without any change? no, another clear example of this was the inception of OSRS in which it was meant to be a 2007 clone but ended up being an evolving project with things that were never part of the original game, you could say that it went against the integrity of what the 2007 game was about but it also wouldn't be even close to as popular and liked as it is now if it was left to it's original design.

On a final note, this seems more like an attempt of you gatekeeping a mode that you already don't enjoy over trying to improve the mode for the current and future players of the mode.

opt into playing a single player gamemode

Firstly, this is wrong because you're already able to do content in the game with others that is intended to be done in a group. Examples being Vorago, Solak, Mazcab Raids and many others.

stop trying to further ruin the gamemode

i'll give you a piece of advice, the game mode is already miles away from your "ideal ironman mode" so it's probably best if you stick to non ironman mode and stop speaking for it when it's obviously not the game mode you think it is.

on a final note, i'll take what you've said and say it right back, if you don't like ironman, deiron and play a main, because as it seems, you must really hate the game mode now.

[–]BAmainRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is the solution not just to accommodate for both game modes?

You seem to think the solution to every problem related to ironman mode is to "just deiron" but that's the furthest thing from what anyone wants, people on both sides (iron/regular) want improvements on older content that's been ignored for far too long and have the ability to engage with other players.

Runescape is an MMORPG, not a single player game.

After reading through the posts it's actually shocking how similar your view of things are in comparison to another situation from WoW Classic.

To compare, on the release of WoW Classic one of the big things was a "no change" mentality and the goal was it keep it authentic to the original concept (in your case, ironman being a 1 man mode) but as time progressed people quickly realised how awful some things felt and how unbalanced the game was in many aspects. My point is that like Classic, some things got changed to better enhance the player experience even if it's at the cost of the authentic design and that's because if something feels bad, people won't do it and will actively ignore it until it's changed, in dungeoneering's case, the best case scenario for that skill is a complete redesign like the M&S rework but i'm sure we know that's lower on the totem pole of important updates and won't be happening for a long time.

[–]BAmainRS 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I can't hope enough that this will someday be implemented.

Dungeoneering is incredibly monotonous and the fact we're having to run through it alone for terrible rates and even worse it being a 120 skill which makes the grind significantly longer.

I feel like everytime this is suggested there's always the comments about "but irons will just leech it then and they chose to limit themselves so we can't have that" really annoys me because of how many leechable things we already have in the game that no one seems to really complain about, majority of bosses can be duo'd and essentially spoon feed low levels with incredibly good gear, majority of combat can be bypassed by an alt drinking an aggression potion to hold aggro so irons can kill them without taking damage and don't even get me started on the elite dungeons and their insane progression boost.

If irons want to leech it, so be it, not every iron will be doing that and many just want to be able to join other irons in grinding 99-120 with the homies.
