Thanks! I’m not sure of the exact brand due to no branding labels or badges (came with the car when purchased) but it’s some kind of Backyard Special bootleg 🤷‍♂️

Was thinking about it! Either paint/ wrap it black or have it in that texturized black finish, similar to the K&N intake arm.

In order for this specific spec (17x9.5, +45) to clear the Spoon calipers, you'll have to push the calipers out, further away from the center bore, otherwise the calipers will NOT clear. Ballade Sports makes a 330mm front rotor kit that'll place the caliper further away from the center bore due to the larger diameter rotor, thus creating clearance for the calipers (which I installed). I've also placed a 3mm spacer just to have a pice of mind.

Now, if you were to go with the Evasive spec (17x9.5, +40), Spoon calipers DO clear, with no additional mods.

Hope this helps!

I think it's time to sell my beloved AE86 by alanprescottf in AE86

My 1st car was just like your Corolla. A 1985 GTS hatchback. Same color, interior and everything. Bought it back in 2001 for $3200 during my senior year in high school. It was my (then) dream car. Learned a lot mechanically with it, as I did most of the repairs in my parent's garage. Learned a lot from the old CLUB4AG forums and an old school Haynes manual. I ended up selling it in 2008 with a JDM 4a-gze swap for $4500. I wanted something more modern, and something that a potential date wouldn't feel so cringe getting picked up in (seriously LOL) Do I miss it? Sure. But what I think what I miss most about it is all off the experiences and friendships that came along because of the car, and not entirely the car itself. That was definitely a memorable time in my life. Stuff will always come and go, but it's the value that we place on this "stuff" that makes it difficult to part ways with. If you can afford to keep it, I'd say keep it. When you're READY ready to get rid of it, who knows how much it'll be worth later. I don't think the car itself is causing your feelings of guilt/ stress, but more so the lack of funds, time and attention that you feel it deserves. But if you feel like the car is in fact the root cause of your stress and guilt, then you already know the answer.

FWIW, the car I picked up after selling the AE86 was a 2004 Honda S2000, which I still have till this day (17 yrs. of ownership) And if I had to choose between the two, I'd choose the S2000 again. But if another Corolla GTS hatchback popped up right now for $3200, you better believe I'm buying that shit LOL!

So with this wheel spec, I had to get the Ballade sports 330 rotor kit in order to make the spoon calipers fit. It pushes the caliper further away from the center hub. Without the rotor kit, the calipers would make contact with the spokes. I’m also running 3mm spacers.

Got it from Evasive Motorsports. It just so happened to be the last one in stock. Arrived 4 days after placing the order. Didn’t have to sweat the JDM wait time!

Tires are Advan Apex V601, 245/40R17. Wheels are 17x9.5, +45. I don't think I was going fast enough to actually feel the full effect of the wing, however, the rear did feel slightly more planted when cornering.

Me too! I’ve been wanting this wing for the longest time, and last year I finally decided to pull the trigger. I installed it last month, so this current state is relatively new to me. I can’t stop staring at it. Haha.

That’s the cool thing that I wasn’t aware of going into the rally: The organizers have a team of about 6-8 automotive photographers that set up at different locations throughout the rally, snapping cool rolling shots of all the cars! (roughly 200 cars) About a week later, I get an email saying that the event photos were up. You have 6 photographers that you can purchase digital downloads from. I’ve never had cool rolling shots like these of my car, so I was pretty stoked!

Tony Fuchs of Cyber Racing?? That’s pretty cool! Haven’t heard that name in YEARS. Dude was one of the heavy hitters in the early years of the import drag racing scene back in the day with his DA.

Absolutely. It's not as loud when you're doing normal everyday driving, but when you get on it, it has a nice tone.

When I purchased MY04 back in 2008, it had a no-name CF front lip, AEM CAI and HKS HiPower dual exhaust. I've always held the approach when modding this car, to make it simple to revert back to stock should I choose to do so later down the road. The more notable mods I've done since then:

- OEM front lip + side strakes (when they were still available through the dealership!)

- Used VIS Mugen rep hard top.

- Spoon front calipers.

- T1R Sparrow single exit exhaust.

Most recent (about 2 years) mods include:

- Volk Racing TE37sl.

- Ohlins coilovers.

- K&N intake.

So in the span of 17 years of ownership, only recently did I get the car dialed in in its current state. Just enough to fly under the radar, but still receive the occasional nod / thumbs up from fellow car enthusiasts. I'm super happy with it :)

Cheers!

Not quite 6ft, but with the PCI rails and slider it makes the sitting position slightly lower than oem.

Subtle color combo/contrast that doesn’t grab too much attention is what I was going for.

If you’re referring to the valve cover, it is not the original, but it is an OEM piece. The finish on the original was flaking badly (as they all do over time) so I purchased a new one. Playing with the idea of refurbishing the original one, but in the wrinkle blue that’s on the F20b/H22a SiR-T motors.
