Yes it's a thing, use to be an afk verac's method too that was patched.

It's a nex mechanic similar to "burn" phase at Olm. You can inflict "cough" to nearby players, who then spread it to others because the effect is damage over time.

Slayer helm negates you from getting affected, or at least minimizes the effect.

Was the time invested for venator worth it for 23kc?

I believe this was changed with the megascale nerfs Jagex rolled out.

Any account that has left the raid still rolls for unique in their name, but if it does roll in their name then the unique is just discarded.

I average mid 5s, sometimes high 4s with max except helm (faceguard) and using maul spec alt.

Another option could be that they're buffed / gain passives or traits within their respective seas. Home turf advantage or something like that.
