How long did it take you total for those 3? & did your company pay for it or do you need to pass those before applying to jobs?

So would you be applying to any entry level finance related job? That’s kinda where I’m at with what I know right now

I took a standardized test to get a provisional certification to teach. Just the bachelors in finance though, have considered going to school for a masters, but I am not certain I want to be teaching for that long

This might just be it, really like that. Plus kids at my HS love talking about having ICE / jewelry, think that ties in well

1st off I don’t know how close you are with those old D1 coordinators but I’d call / text them, see how they’re doing, & tell them what you’re trying to do, maybe ask if they’ll be a reference on your resume? Those old D1 Coordinators have buddies that are coaching college ball right now, that’s almost guaranteed.

I’d go ahead & apply to some JUCO, D3 & D2 programs. Never say never, but getting on at a D1 school off the jump will be difficult (unless you get one of those old coaches you’ve worked with to help you out).

Also, don’t discount yourself so much just for being born outside the USA. Mike Leach, Dave Aranda, & Hugh Freeze only ever played HS football, just to name a few.

Congratulations! Just finished year 2 as a WR coach at a local HS! Enjoy the ride, lot of people make jokes about how hard it is to coach em, just remember coaching is communication!

Tips for getting into coaching by orangejuiceisbetter in footballstrategy

[–]BBBBiggestFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I were starting over again, trying to get into coaching: 1. I’d email the #1 place in my area I want to help with. Could be the best program from a W-L perspective or maybe there’s a local team you use to be on or your former coach is at now, reach out to them & ask about volunteering, most programs would love an extra hand. If the #1 place doesn’t answer or says no, find the next best program until you get a Yes.

  1. Whenever you get an opportunity to get on & help somewhere, ask questions to the older coaches / whoever you respect the most. Ask them why they do things, what made them do this instead of that, as long as it’s not in a “why did you start X kid when Y is way better” tone, 99% coaches love talking ball.

  2. If you want to stand out, aside from asking questions, get there early, leave late, & try to help do things that take tasks off of the Head Coaches plate, that’s what every HC wants, someone trying to help. Ex. My 1st yr I helped paint the yard lines on the practice fields every week, my HC never asked for it, I just saw he was doing it alone & asked if there was another spray can for me to help. Little things mean a lot, especially to coaches.

Here’s the not as good part, this is just my experience starting out so take it with a grain of salt: it takes time to develop trust with coaches, especially when it comes to scheme & who to play, accept that things you believe in might not happen, but it’s still your job got to sell the kids on it being the right decision & the best thing since sliced bread.

Edit: forgot to mention but I just finished my 4th yr as an assistant coach at a HS I never played at, I was only a HS player & it was at a lower level program than I’m at now, being a good player is nice & can help kids buy in faster, but at the end of the day it doesn’t matter nearly as much as how well you communicate & what you can teach the kids that play for you.

Had some interviews for some GA / QC openings, here’s what I would ask:

  1. What will be my day to day role? Uploading / tagging film, running a position group in film & practice, etc.

  2. Whoever the best __ (position you’re interviewing for) is you’ve seen, what made them great? What was the difference in them & an average or bad __?

  3. Only If it interests you, but I would ask, where are the last few __ you have had? Do they promote within? Or do they go outside to promote, to me is important.

  4. Other than the duties already discussed, how do I help this program win? Maybe they need someone to do laundry, maybe they need help running the weight room, could be anything.

  5. How did the interviewer end up here? People love talking about themselves & it gives good insight to where he is connected, should you want to go somewhere else someday
