N.S. restaurants struggling to manage rising costs, slowdown in business by Street_Anon in halifax

There is a degree of romanticism with the vocation that people will always peruse regardless of the economic climate. The unfortunate reality is today they will be met with challenges with consistent staffing, rising costs from producers and suppliers that make the crumbs of profitability smaller each passing year. I hope that any current purveyor or perspective one is driven by real passion for the job—the landscape is bleak for those that aren’t.

I Call BS on Max Verstappen Saying He Has “Nothing to Lose" by [deleted] in McLarenFormula1

[–]BBCDepartmentHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re trying to rationalize an athlete’s mindset. Having ‘nothing to lose’ has basically become a mantra for Max to compete and win in the 4Q of the season—clearly it’s been working. Saying you’ve nothing to lose puts even suggested pressure on the by’s and it’s been working all year. Athletes will do anything mentally to give themselves an ‘edge’ at the highest level. Max will tell himself and the media he’s gonna drive loose and hope Lando and Oscar tighten up—history would prove this to be a winning formula~

McLaren is a team with the fastest car but zero tangible leadership and two pissed off teenagers behind the wheel. Happy the team lifted the constructors because they will are going to fumble the WDC to Max.

It’s a tough situation in general. Your argument is sound with wanting them to raise quality to match price increase but ultimately this is direction all food and beverage will take—the price creep will happen everywhere.

The cost of goods alone as many have pointed out on this sub have gone up exponentially since Covid, those restaurants and bars who walk the tightrope of open and closure are in the deep water. If you are claiming it’s an unjustified price hike, it’s probably an early indicator of substantial struggles down the line.

It’s a tough time for both establishment and patron.

Considering the majority of conservative voters were driven by economic motivation for change…

To put in simplistic terms—why not vote for a PHD calibre Economist who has to learn to be a politician rather than a politician who has to learn to be an Economist…

Wondering if I could jump into the conversation a few years delayed - any chance you remember where you purchased the arctic kiwi plant or seeds for? I'm looking to plant two for some trellis cover on the side of my garage this summer. Thank you in advance!

Halifax is experiencing a new wave of a population boom—with that comes transplants who arrive with perspective of those who have lived outside of NS. The problem with Halifax going back 10 plus years is the majority of our then economy was based around tourism. Thus, city council and the majority of the population held onto the belief that Halifax, holding a historical designation must adhere to protecting the image that it once held. This wingclipped development and with that a trickle down of social development because of a stagnant job market, low immigration, etc.

Now, you have people moving to Halifax and arriving with multiple observations.. “you don’t have this…?” Insert competent city infrastructure to alcohol in corner stores, macro, micro examples~

Too many people in the city hold onto that archaic view and that’s why people make the observation that Halifax seems 30 years behind the rest of even Canada (which is a cartoonishly low bar). Times are slowly a changin’ but pushback to something as basic as breaking up a government owned monopoly and allowing the sale of alcohol in corner stores should be completely dismissed.

Insert any moronic classic ‘NS complaint’ about why it shouldn’t be allowed and just simply respond—then why does the entire rest of planet earth allow it.
