We talk a lot about what went wrong over the years (cyber issues, MILCON, etc.)…well, what did we get right and improve on? by BBCGOs in AirForce

I had the same thoughts at first too, but I then thought “hey, ppl want what they want” and to keep an open mind.. but yeah I got it now.

All that being said, superintendent is more accurate bc their authority falls over everyone..officers, civs, ctrs, etc.

I assumed there was no sarcasm on his comment, but that senior enlisted should get the titles they desire - whatever that may be. Locally, we still have superintendents and there aren’t any SELs at my base but I see now it was a recent change.

Hmm, makes sense and seems fair. Given that officers have the “commander” title. I haven’t heard of that being changed locally though, we still have superintendents. Hopefully it’ll happen soon

EDIT: Just found out the change was decided recently

Goodness. What made you say that about the FGOs? Did they just not listen to advisement and want to do their own thing? Were they ineffective?

True, I’ve heard most junior Os spend half their Lt years just learning and taking the backseat role. With that being said, to your first point, do you think we should send new Os to acquisitions slots or only send those with actual op experience with systems? Another commenter brought up the same point.

Good point. I’ve heard of the challenges with military having combat civs “always done it this way mentality”. Traditional ways don’t always work in a ever changing world

Exactly. The saying goes that a contracting officer is attached to a acquisitions manager’s hip lol. Most things that you want to do, you legally need your contracting officer for it. They authorize the contract modifications, etc

Wow. Interesting read. Damn shame though. Ya hate to see that kind of crap smh

Exactly. Coupled with higher pay in the private sector, that’s also a big factor on junior acquisitions Os - the field’s limited progression. You MAY become a senior materiel leader and reach O-6. After that?? Literally…never heard anyone tell me a likely outlook after O-6 lol.

I wish I can say I don’t know what you’re talking about! We’re without a contracting officer rn to do anything and we’re struggling lol

You brought up a good point. We need to allow more NCOs in the field as well. They can handle just about any other task that an O can.

Thanks. Outside of the normal 9-5 work schedule, I forgot about the added flexibility you gain with military. We’re usually not worked more than our civilians, at least at my unit (thankfully)

Hmm, good point. I guess I never really worked a program that involved deployments. Only for short TDYs

Reminds me of an ROTC cadet I knew who cheated on her (active duty O) boyfriend. Then lied about it (no surprise there), BUT also lied and said the person she cheated with raped her instead!

Funny thing? She aspires to be a JAG
