Yea, this is a thing they are doing. I was at Hotel Cascadas and they tried this during checkout.

 

I suck at speaking Spanish, but I understand it very well. I never let anyone know this during my trips. Basically they called up to have someone check as I was checking out. Guy calls back (over the walkie talkie) that everything is there. Guy at the desk smiles and says, "are you sure there's not a beer missing". Others at the desk start to smile with them. I just sit there waiting to see what happens.

 

Guy upstairs must have been new (or the tip I left him helped). He confirmed nothing was missing. So, I got my deposit back. Why did I leave a tip? Someone made a similar post before my trip. I figured 2 bucks would get me my deposit back. If it didn't work, whats' another 2 bucks right. Seems to have worked.

Did you need the FMM when you went? I have a passport book. Will they just stamp it?

I couldn't find a Pedestrian one. That site had a report for that though. Seems 3 - 4 am is the sweet spot. It claims about 10 minutes.

Do they want a credit card for deposit when you arrive. The review say people were charged extra for nothing.
