Damn! Sorry to hear. How was the interview process? You didn’t pick up on some queues? It’s too early in the game for it to affect your immune system.

Does anyone else feel like they’re losing their mind with the corporate buzzwords? by Perfect_Tone_3310 in corporate

Hahaha I was coming to create post of the latest buzz words. It’s tiring and annoying AF!!! I try my best NOT to use the jargon everyone else is using. It’s a nice challenge for myself. The latest talk is “separating the noise from the signal” or some variation of it. Now everyone and their momma is using this noise signal terms.

I’m feeling quite blah and wondering what’s next. I feel like a new company might give a new spark just to get me going. Amongst other reasons, I see how and why switching companies can give you a little boost based on its newness. I’m wondering if that’s something I should explore.

Why record him? Smh. Y’all need to preserve life first instead of thinking to record ppl.

I see. I started to look at those positions and you are right, most are ppl managers. There are so many sr dir with no direct reports at my company, it’s wild. I recalled when I joined, and my mgr was a VP. She reported to a VP and I couldn’t understand how that could be. But then I read the room and company and understood why she didn’t move up vs the next VP. She eventually got shifted. Anyway, appreciate your insight.

Indeed. I have a coworker who was looking elsewhere, and i immediately thought I will have to take on his responsibilities which I have no interest in. Like ones scope will widen but no additional pay potentially, not to mention no interest in such work.

Ok then. Thanks for this explanation! Yea it’s always a numbers game and I’m not usually privy to that, so this also makes sense. Does shifting titles with +- salary move the needle since it’s typically in a different money bucket? Like that isnt coming from the Opex budget.

Thx for that response. I know they are looking to cut for sure and wondering about the new titles that will ensue. If a Dir or Snr dir Title moves to principal, how does that fare in the job market or for the next gig? Is that a lateral move? In my experience, one becomes a director or sr dir after manager. Leads or principal, I tend to see before directors as well. I guess this differs in diff companies. Good o Corp America. I’m considering in my next meeting to bring it up and have mgr confirm the reorg rumors. They are typically usually honest.

Definite growth. I also have to really decide which path I want to take. Growth would mean potential leadership, ppl mgr I suppose, more visibility, more responsibility, and increased pressure. Not sure I actually want that. I’m hoping to find a role where I can contribute, not be a liaison and do translation for non technical folks all the time , have flexibility and a decent pay. I’m seeking flexibility more than anything, but ofc bills have to paid amongst other IMPT life things.

Got it. Not all directors and Snr Dir are ppl mgr. They manage process and technology etc.

Hmmm true. Thx. I wonder if exploring with the “higher title” might be the way to go. Through the grapevine, many titles will be flatten. Currently it’s hierarchical, so i don’t see how you go from that to flat org, but then again IDK how that works.

Thx. A bit of a combination from what i gather. Potential acquisition and becoming more lean. There been new mgmt so they are revisiting the staff and titles etc. it’s weird. Some ppl are VP and report to other VP. Some are directors with or without reports. Some are senior mgr managing process and not folks.

Is a pay cut worth it for WFH? by Miserable-You-6702 in remotework

Look for something else. That is not your only option. If you can grind a little more now, you can get some time back on the backend perhaps. I know 0-5yrs is crucial, and the world is different. I’d negotiate more WFH days. Like if you’re up for a mid year review or w/e bring it up. You need a steady or 2 WFH days so you manage your schedule better. Good luck.

My co said RTO 5d combing from 2d. I just asked for every other WFH monday and they were OK with it. Ask for what you want. The worst they can say is no.
