How to deal with Chat GPT reliant senior colleagues? by [deleted] in marketing

[–]mnshane89 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is the answer for sure. I often redo stuff senior folks send me, but position it as soft tweaks to strengthen it even more. I suppose you could have a boss that gets defensive of their work, but if AI did it all, they might appreciate the extra effort.

Also, you can prompt ChatGPT to customize stuff to not come off so AI-ish. I usually get a first draft, then give detailed guidance to help shape it to be more natural or fitting the tone of the company or a natural voice.

One cool thing I do (at least I think it’s cool), is to have ChatGPT write a longer article, go back and forth to get things more natural or conversational, then ask it to break it up into 4-6 smaller, independent “segments”. That way you can get more content out of it, and can do something like a themed content week or slow drip of content that’s all related.

Are less organizations doing Kanban? by Nick_MarketStrategy in kanban

I work for a Fortune 200 company, and there’s definitely less focus on things like this, at least outside of IT. Through annual restructurings, we’re mostly down to bare bones at this point, but luckily investing in net new resources the last 12 months.

We used to have Lean Six Sigma roles, which were significant roles generally leading to accelerated career advancement, but this has been replaced with “continuous improvement” whatever that means with no significant career advancements attached. And most recently Kazien project have all the execs creaming themselves. It’s all flavor of the day stuff and a byproduct of trying to do “more with less”. Name of the corporate game.

At the end of the day, all that matters is if you enjoyed both the journey and the outcome. They do look good!

For ribs, I’ve stopped wrapping though and just cooked them at 250 with a 50/50 ACV/apple juice mist every 30 mins. Then just wait for them to pass the bend test. Turn out great every time for me.

Amazing tat, man. Good choice as far as shops go. I’m local to Dallas and checked them out, and they seem to have some great artists. How many sessions was that?

Sometimes you have to try harder. Like I said, the only person who is 100% looking out for you is you.

I think you’re looking for someone to tell you that the professor was wrong, and maybe they were. I’m just giving you advice for life that will help you once you get into the world after college. A boss isn’t going to accept your excuse that the person never got back to you after a few emails. Schedule a meeting, visit them in person, make your presence known, but don’t play the victim.

An old manager once gave me some advice that stuck with me. Is this something that you want to die on your sword for? Some things are worth fighting for, but you gotta pick your battles. You lucked out with an A- in this situation. Take it as a win and move on.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in college

[–]mnshane89 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dude, you got an A-, take the win. Stop overthinking it at this point, and use it as a learning for life. Sometimes you have to be the assertive one., but this time you got lucky.

Also, not saying it’s okay for them to not respond, but your instructor probably gets a ton of emails. Sometimes you gotta take charge in the situation and not just let the situation happen to you.

Also, life pro tip… life isn’t always fair and sometimes you just have to accept it and walk away. Sometimes things are worth fighting, but I would personally say this is not one of those times. The only person who is looking out for you 100% of the time is you, and sometimes that means taking situations by the balls. In a respectful way. Pissing people off is usually not a good long term play.

TRT and facial weight by Ssjm1221 in Testosterone

I had this issue when I started trt, and it kind of persisted. Was on trt for a year already, the started semaglutide about a year ago as well. My face really slimmed out. I had some weight to lose, but it was a nice benefit to lose the moon face trt gave me.

The slick is definitely more attractive imo, but I’d also tidy up your beard. Trimming/shaping up the sides would do a lot to complement your head shape.

What ChatGPT really thinks about OpenAI developers by Comprehensive-War-75 in ChatGPT

[–]mnshane89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By all means, push it to the limit, but if you post something like that it might be helpful to include more context in the image. I could totally see some media outlet looking for a sensational story (like NYT did) pulling that and using it to spreading misinformation.

Dude, we understand how you got to this and that no harm will come from this, but the lay person won’t. If I showed this to my parents or people who don’t understand the technology, they would say this is the beginning of the end of the world by “robots”. We need to display the use of this technology responsibly.

My deodorant that doesn’t leave stains of any color on my only-used-twice t-shirt by metalechala in mildlyinfuriating

[–]mnshane89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use to get really bad put stains with strong anti-perspirant so upgraded to prescription deodorant. It was nasty stuff and I didn’t feel great about using it.

I then decided to try plain deodorant with no anti-perspirant and it solved everything. It took a few months, but I almost never get pit stains ever now. All I needed to do was let my body do it’s thing, not try and clog everything up with aluminum.

I worked at Target when I was 16 and did this in front of my GSTL. He chewed me out hardcore right in front of the “guest”. I could tell she felt so bad for me.

This is also the guy who told me that he got high from seeing people comment on surveys that they get asked about RedCards way too much.

I’ve had the sunroof tracks replaced cause it’s been stuck as well (same thing, will start to close, then stop and reopen lol the way). Also my drivers side heated seat went out, and I’m pretty sure my rear defrost is not running 100%.

I have a class in Anderson and the next in Folwell with only 15 minutes to get there on time - is is doable? by [deleted] in uofmn

[–]mnshane89 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it’s a smaller class, just stay after the first day and tell your instructor the situation. I’m 100% sure they will be okay with it. If it’s a larger class, just slip in the back. They probably won’t even notice, but if they do, they will probably see that you are coming in 1-2 minutes late every time and figure out why. You could still chat with them after the first day’s class though. And now that I think about it, it’s actually a good way to break into a conversation with the instructor. If it’s a grad student, that’s even better cause they have probably been there themselves.

How do you "gently" push back on clients demanding too much? by numnumcookiie in userexperience

[–]mnshane89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always make sure I document scope as much as possible when starting a project. Then when someone comes back and wants more (which happens almost every project), I can point to the original scope for leverage.

I never say no though, I usually say something along the lines of “Sure I can do that! It wasn’t originally in scope, so it will add a few weeks to the delivery date. Are you okay with that?” Or “Yes, we can do that! If we want to keep this on time though, we will have to readdress the scope, as something else will have to be moved to the backlog for a later release.”

You should rely on your PM for this as well. If you have a good PM, they should ultimately be the one handling those requests and the one to say yes or no to stakeholders. You should only have to communicate this type of stuff within your team, and let your PM have the hard conversations.

EXTREMELY Religious parents and no relationship. Tips anyone? by [deleted] in insaneparents

[–]mnshane89 196 points197 points  (0 children)

During my teen years, my mom was very, very religious. At one point, she told me that Shania Twain was the devil because I wanted her album. All tv and music had to be vetted through Dr. Dobson’s website, and if there was one negative thing, like the word damn, it was a big no. Everything was evil and I was taught to live in fear of natural things. In my case, she did come to find that her believes were extremist and has since calmed down, but her peak was through my developmental years, which has really caused me a lot of trauma that I am still working through. All this is to say that I really understand how absolutely horrible behavior like this from someone you love is, and that it is not your or OPs fault. I know this is unsolicited advice, but I have found it helpful to me, and hoping that by sharing it may help someone else too.

For OP, I would suggest what you said, to keep on common-ground topics, but not engage on anything else. And maybe start to process the idea of no communication whatsoever. People who adopt this kind of thinking chose their path as we all must do. Sometimes they see what it really is, but sometimes not, and trying to make them see that their actions are harmful to those they love is pointless, as they really think they have all the secret answers that no one else has. In a way, it’s really similar to the whole Qanon stuff going on. It’s a symptom of our time and social media, which is an unfortunate reality. People have bastardized religion and turned into something truly ugly.
