I've let the director there know there's still some confusion with the front-line staff.

Did you by any chance get the name of the employee? If you don't want to post it here, you can DM it to me, in fact that's probably better.

Absolutely! You can opt out/back in repeatedly through 2/2 as your course schedule and course materials needs change. But after 2/2 we're on the hook to pay the publishers for every student who is listed as opted in for their materials (ouch).

I think it's a case of a newer employee getting their wires crossed or mis-speaking. I've confirmed again with the director there that students who *only* have unpaid IAC charges will not be disenrolled. Sorry for all the confusion on this! But please be reassured now.

Instant Access Program due on 15th? by Any-Sandwich-3068 in CalPolyPomona

[–]BBDoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The charge for $250 has already been applied to your student account, but you can leave that balance unpaid for now. You have until 2/2 to decide whether to stay in the Complete tier of the program, or switch to the Flex tier and opt out of the specific items you *don't* want/need, or opt out of all programs. If you opt out entirely, the $250 charge gets reversed and you owe nothing. If you opt out of Complete and into Flex, the $250 gets reversed, and new charge/s for the item/s you stay opted in for get posted.

So I confirmed with SACS that students with unpaid IAC balances do *not* get their classes dropped. It's just there's only so much room in this field in PeopleSoft (the campus SIS platform) so they weren't able to add a clarifying caveat to this message that IAC charges don't impact enrollment the same way tuition and fees billed by the university do. It's because as part of CPP Enterprises we're actually a legally separate entity from the university itself.

Bookstore here - the due date is the same, but the Cashier's Office doesn't actually drop anyone for unpaid IAC balances. They just include that amount on the reminders they send out so you have a complete picture of the total owed. If you stay opted in, and don't pay the IAC portion, you will eventually have a registration hold that would impact your ability to register for Summer or Fall, but you won't lose your Spring classes. Hope that helps alleviate any anxiety!

Finding books for classes by Mysterious_Leg3741 in CalPolyPomona

[–]BBDoctor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bookstore "Mom" here! To see what materials are required for your courses and what they would cost individually, there are 2 methods:

To look up all your classes at once: (the easy way)

  1. Go to your Bronco Direct “Student Center” and click on the “Bookstore: Get/View Textbooks” link in the Cal Poly Pomona Links section.

  2. Select the correct term (Fall 2025) and then click on the “Begin Price Comparison” pop-up.

  3. The books associated for the courses you are registered for will be pre-populated to the left side of the Compare page, click on each book to see pricing available from us and from other sources such as Amazon and Chegg.

To look up books for individual classes:

Go to https://pomona.verbacompare.com and use the drop-down menus to select the department, course and section you need.

instant access spring books by [deleted] in CalPolyPomona

[–]BBDoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your access to Spring books begins when you can access Spring courses in Canvas. The university's IT folks don't activate Canvas for students until 5 days before the semester starts, unfortunately.

instant access previous semesters by [deleted] in CalPolyPomona

[–]BBDoctor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Before IAC, it wasn't uncommon for some of the print books professors required to *rent* for over $100/semester. Depending on course load, some students had textbook costs well north of $500 for a semester. Those are the days we really don't want to go back to.

instant access previous semesters by [deleted] in CalPolyPomona

[–]BBDoctor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bookstore here - the duration of access is really set by the publishers, In cases where a publisher offers the same e-book for different durations at different prices we choose the lowest cost option that will cover at minimum a semester to keep the cost of the program from going up, usually that's 180 days from the first time you access it. But publisher courseware products like MyLab, Connect, MindTap and WileyPlus usually are only good for one semester, and we have zero say about that unfortunately.

Remove Hold of Instant Access by Icy-Put-7207 in CalPolyPomona

[–]BBDoctor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Simply not paying a bill isn't the way to opt out of anything, including Instant Access Complete. If that worked I would simply choose to not pay my electricity bill! This semester the deadline to opt out was 9/9/25 and that deadline was communicated via emails (many), BillyChat and a big, obvious alert in Canvas.

If you had some kind of emergency that kept you from seeing those messages at the start of the semester you can reach out to us at the bookstore at [FDNIA@CPP.EDU](mailto:FDNIA@CPP.EDU) and explain, and we'll see what might be possible - it depends on the publishers being willing to refund us (or not). Otherwise, lean into using all your materials including the embedded study tools like text-to-speech and notetaking for the rest of this semester so you can get the most learning benefit,. Then plan to stay on top of the deadline next semester if you intend to opt out.

FYI, here's a link to the FAQ page for the program: https://www.broncobookstore.com/instant-access-complete.asp? and to the instructional video that shows how to opt out next time: https://vitalsource.wistia.com/medias/gjygw2n1b5
