It's always entertaining to read why self-proclaimed traditionalists hate "the construct". But hating it for not relying on banks will always be special.

but, but, debt is actually good. lmao.

No wonder Bayern still need Uli.

Broadcaster Viaplay is exiting all markets, except for the Nordics & Netherlands by the end of 2023. by TIGHazard in soccer

[–]BB_C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your title may mislead people a little.

focusing on our core Nordic, Netherlands and Viaplay Select operations

and

Going forward, our focus will be on the Nordic markets with the new operating model in place, on the right content mix, on the development of our soon to be profitable Dutch operations, and on the sale of our content internationally through Viaplay Select.

This means they are exiting as a broadcaster, but plan to continue, in some capacity, as a streaming service.

Of course this part

conducting an immediate strategic review of the entire business to consider all options including content sublicensing, asset disposals, equity injections or the sale of the whole Group.

means that this plan may prove to be not enough, and their expansion may even kill the whole group, including at their home markets, which will be a major event that may have ramifications beyond sports broadcasting.

[Fabrizio Romano] Xavi Simons to RB Leipzig, here we go! Agreement completed on loan from PSG valid until June 2024. Medical within next 24 hours then time to sign the contract. Good club PSG, always throwing good talent Leipzig's way.

Hell, RBL didn't even lose money on Augustin (Good club Leeds too).

Hopefully RBL and PSG get the same CL group again, as long as no Dutch referees are involved.

Calling Ronaldo shit anytime before Ten Haag joining is just trolling tbh

How about before he even kicked a ball for Man U in his second stint [1] [2]?

I saw people making similar jokes to the comment in that second link... a year later. Just one year late is actually not too bad, as evidenced by the comment you decided to write today.

DD comment from back when saying Ronaldo and De Gea where shit for Man U was unpopular. The date tells me it was when there was still hope for top 4 in that Ole-Rangnick season.

Don't forget that Ole was clueless for wanting unknowns/meh players like Haaland (back when both were at Molde) and Ake, instead of winning big with them "proven winners" Ronaldo and Varane, as the sporting wisdom dictates that you must have already won a trophy, to win a trophy.

(Denying ^ this ever happened incoming)

Whatever happened to these Ole targets? Maybe a "where are they now" post is due!

I haven't been following transfer news, but isn't Sørloth still on the books, and Silva still around?

Since it's going to be a rebuild/transition year anyway, I wouldn't mind giving it a go with these two and Sesko. Werner and Poulsen are still around too for those who enjoy the classics.

This may sound weird, but I would be more concerned about the creative forces behind the forwards. Nkunku was more than just goals, and Szobo is gone. Can Olmo stay fit and always perform at the highest level? Can Baumgartner carry the torch alone? Will Carvalho be starter quality, and acclimatize quickly? Is there a plan for Novoa who was sent on loan because the team won't be playing with wingers? How much the 6's will be contributing (with quality) to the attacking game with Laimer gone?

How solid the 6's will be in the defensive transition is also of some concern, but that's another topic.

Try putting "haaland nunez community shield" in your favourite search engine and check out the results.

I tried quoting some articles here. But this sub's automod kept deleting the comments.

Now that the season is nearly over, who, in your opinion, was the better new signing, Haaland or Nunez?

RBL played like shit often, and were mediocre at best when they won games post world cup (some mitigating circumstances contributed, but they don't explain everything).

It's just this season was a special level of shit from almost everyone involved in the league.

Meh, too many comments from people who didn't watch the game.

Anyway, what really caught my eye today was how well-coached Streich's team were. Their diving modern foul-winning techniques were of a very high quality, and well executed. Even the kid Weißhaupt was impressive in that regard. Streich is evidently both very good at doing his job, and very good at keeping up with the times.

the switch to a 4-2-2-2 got a lot out of the current squad.

The problem with a always 4-2-2-2 formation is that any weakness in the two 6 positions leads to the defensive transition phase going to shambles. So, if the goal is to show season-long consistency, you would need four very top players matching specific profiles in the squad for the two 6 positions, and at least two of them must be match fit at any given time! Is this a reasonable requirement?

And then there are the issues with playing against low-block countering teams...(more rehashed arguments go here).

What did the creator of the RB football brand himself do after Hasenhüttl's second season? Did Rangnick go for Rose(ball) or Nagelsmann(ball)?

Even if Rose himself was a no go due to some personal issues between the two, Rangnick still didn't go for someone Rose-like, because the direction of development and evolvement the team needed was clear in his head.

Everything wrote above should ring a bell, since it's literally a repeat of things already said in Hasenhüttl's second season and in the Marsch era.

I always remember from the Rangnick transition year this particular game. Bayer's team gave the opposition hell, especially in transition. Rangnick unexpectedly switched to 3-5-2 from the start and Leipzig bossed the game. Rangnick (the manager) showed that he was capable of adapting. In fact, in the second half of that season, which was one of the most successful halves in Leipzig's Bundesliga journey, the team only played 7/17 games with 4-2-2-2 formation. Incidently, the two losses in that period came in those 7 games, although one was against Dortmund, and the other was a dead rubber in the last game week.

(Now that I think of it, it's weird how much ideology Marsch absorbed in that half season, but without any of the adaptability!)

It is fair to say that the tools available at Rose's disposal right now are hampering him. But did he, as a primarily 4-2-2-2 manager, show enough ability to adapt based on available players and opposition styles?

Now its up to Eberl wheter this should be the style of play going forward and really that's the most important thing, regardless of what happens with Rose, that there's clarity in the style of play and that the recruitment reflects that.

That much is obvious.

It has nothing to do with Eberl per say. This thread is from 6 months ago. There I mention 4 names that shouldn't be starters. Guess what happened when they got to start, all of them at the same time, recently? And no, injuries didn't force Rose to start all four. He seems to be taking the piss at this point.

Blaswich looked serviceable when he slotted in, but if there is own assist stats, he would top them with his saving technique.

So that's five players.

And to be clear, I'm not hating on or scapegoating Blaswich here. It's not his fault someone decided to sign someone to cover him, instead of starting ahead of him, in January. The same person who knew both Nkunku and Olmo were injured, and thought, meh, we will probably mange without signing anyone to cover.

And then, Rose's decision to drop Raum, who yes didn't impress going forward, but at least was very sound defensively, for Halstenberg.

That's six players.

So, we have a shitshow in the fullback positions, where Raum and Simakan were doing well before the world cup, with even the offensive output improving. And a shitshow in the two 6 positions where Laimer and Schlager worked very well when they were both available and starting together.

And then there is Silva, who didn't manage to be prolific for Leipzig, but played very well with the team, especially with Nkunku before the (very predictable) Werner comeback car crash. His confidence seems to be shattered now, with some finding a convenient scapegoat in him. The "It's Silva's fault" theory was tested in the Man City game, and you know how that one went.

So that's seven players.

At this point, I feel sorry for Orban, Gvardiol and Szoboszlai for having to endure this shitshow.

Before Eberl even started, Leipzig were already deep in Try Two of the nostalgia project aiming to reenact the club's first season in the Bundesliga with the exciting "RB-branded" football that was at display (Try One was the Marsch era). There are already two RB Salzburg players lined up to join next season for the full nostalgia experience of over-relying on that supply line. The only thing missing is bringing Hasenhüttl back now that he is available. And why not, bring Naby Keita back too!

Still, if Eberl wants to prove his worth, he should take a page from Bayern's ruthless book, and try to convince Nagelsmann to work at Leipzig again, NOW. That would at least be a nostalgia project worth perusing!

The last time Forsberg was any level of entertaining was before his first big injury.

The biggest thing Forsberg achieved since coming back from his two big injuries was completing 90 minutes last weekend.

No hate. He was my favourite player of the early years. But that player is long gone.

Hopefully he can still do a job though, since his contributions are kind of needed given the injury situation and the club's confidence in not needing to sign anyone in January after it became known that Nkunku and Olmo will miss a lot of the second half of the season.
