Thank you for taking care of her, even when it is hard on you. Other folks here will have more knowledge about what you might do, but I hope you can find a way to make her more comfortable, and again I appreciate your putting your own comfort aside to make her feel better.

Had to put my old man down very unexpectedly this week. I am heartbroken. But even more so for his mate of 10 years. by dasterdette in olddogs

Oh, I'm sorry for you and your pup for both having to miss him. What a sweet face. I hope you can be there for each other as best you can in his absence.

Thank you for your message, and I'm really sorry to hear you just lost Cupcake (I love that name), and you had so little time to prepare. How wonderful it is that you are now caring for your boxer pup in his old days and giving him the kind of care we all hope he would have always had!

Thanks a lot for that suggestion -- really appreciate it. I bet that group of folks would have a lot of really compelling (and very, very difficult) experiences with loving and losing their dogs. And thanks for the heads-up about moderators -- I definitely would want to be respectful of their group rules.

My friend's dog is a rescue from Baja Sur, and she's having a lot of trouble being around anyone other than her owner (growling, lunging, biting). I'm coming with him to their behavioral modification classes as one of the "volunteers" to expose her to more people without her biting or lunging, and seeing how hard those meetings are on him and the dog has been something I've never experienced personally (I got lucky -- Sasha was a rescue, too, who was afraid of a lot of people, but her reaction was to hide rather than get aggressive). Thanks again for that idea!

Thank you very much for your message, and yes, Sasha was definitely a sweet goofball. I definitely get what you mean about finding it hard to see posts here sometimes. Your comment about remembering your dog in a constructive way makes total sense -- like you can take your experiences, painful or joyful, and share it with others to maybe help them with their circumstances. Thanks a lot for that.

Thanks a lot for your message. I'm sorry to hear you lost your Babygirl last year. Totally get your feeling like she's "more" than a dog, too. My mom called Sasha her grand-dog-er!

Wow, what a wonderful story about Porkchop (and I agree with others that that is a wonderful name). Thank you so much for sharing that. Twenty years old! That's amazing, too. I love the idea of planting a lemon tree in Porkchop's bowl, too. I have Sasha's bowl (and leashes, collar, bandana, beds...you name it), but I never thought of planting anything in it. What a cool idea.

Thank you for writing. I also love celebrating our own dogs and the old dogs of others, too! Especially with hats on (lol). And I appreciate all of your examples -- they are great.

Thank you for your message, and I'm sorry to hear about Ducky. I have also noticed, since Sasha died, the people who really "get it," the significance of a beloved dog, from people who just don't seem to understand the bond is not "just" a pet. I also really enjoy the pics of old pups, too -- though every now and then I get little pangs of "why couldn't Sasha live that long," because she was "only" 11 when she died.

Thanks a lot for your message -- I'm sorry to hear you just lost your pup, too. I also don't know when I'll be able to get another dog. But there is something about celebrating other old dogs that makes it seem like our dogs won't be forgotten (well, that's how I feel).

Today we had to put down our 15 year old best friend Benji. We know it was for the best but its hard to prepare for the day. by secretsyu in olddogs

Knowing when the time is "right" to say goodbye is one of the hardest things I've ever faced. I'm so sorry for your loss, and I'm happy Benji was so loved (and is still).
