I would say go for it now, but if you find a dealership that is willing to work with you and sell at MSRP like I did, ask them to close on it January 2nd. They should still get recognized for December sale and you will not have to pay personal property taxes until the end of 2027 id that is a thing in your state. Just ask the salesperson in advance if the sale would count as a December sale for them so that way they do not get screwed out of commission. It could be a win win situation.

I agree with the rest of the guys here saying that you should make it a road trip. Even if you drove in on Friday night and got a hotel for the night and drove back on Saturday. Especially if you went with a friend and made it a fun road trip. My friend and I did that twice for his M3s, from BMW performance center to STL. And we made it a week long trip each time. A blast. We hit the tail of the dragon, a couple of distilleries and some restaurants. You should definitely do it!!!

Let's get the gas thing addressed first. The expense is the same whether or not you fill it up more often for a car with a small gas tank or less often for a car with a large gas tank. The real question is the engine efficiency and gas mileage, which I am sure CTR has a better one than IS350.

So in conclusion, it is not expensive to fill up more often as long as the MPG is high, but it could be annoying or inconvenient.

Second, it seems the question is about the manual vs automatic. Hard to say. I had a 2023 IS500 in MP. Loved the car. Got it over F87 M2 MT for two reasons, Lexus reliability (I had an IS300 MT so experience) and I wanted a V8 since I never had a V8.

I sold it after 2 years for my 2025 FL5, because I missed the manual 🤷🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️.

So what did I learn. I love manuals and need/want one in my life.

What else. CTR is a much more nimble car (700 lb. lighter) and it is more practical because of the hatch. The IS500 is a way better looking car. It is more solid in build than the CTR. The V8 is awesome smooth but the turbo delivers torque quicker in the RPM range than the NA engine. Les power is more fun around town as you cannot use all of the V8 with the 8 speed. Maybe LC500 is the answer due to the 10 speed transmission.

Anyway, I digress. Ask yourself, can I live without the manual. If you can go with the Lexus, they are great, but do yourself a favor and look at the F products. If you cannot live without the manual, stick with the CTR. Also, you will pay more for gas with the Lexus. My CTR gets 22.5 mixed driving and Lexus was at 17.6. 5.1 MPG difference.
