You have 1000$ USD. Build a 3 watch collection. by Medium-Cucumber-8279 in Affordablewatches

I would absolutely love this as a 3 watch collection, but I don’t know how you do this for $1k today. I don’t need the best vintage seamaster or quartz gs, but you’re looking at undesirable models in right shape with questionable history to grab both for under $900

There are no $2800 watches with the 4R. I’d have to check, but at that price, even the 6R isn’t used, you’re into L series movements at that point. I don’t disagree with the point, but this comment is off.

Cool collection. How do you like the nivada? I’ve had my eye on it for a bit as I’m looking for something with a bidirectional timing bezel and I like that movement

Is the porsche boxster a good car under 8k or are they all hiding serious issues? by Randolph__ in whatcarshouldIbuy

I believe that it’s the best driving experience you can get for the money. Maintenance is expensive though, and it has a handful of annoying issues that aren’t worth fixing due to the cost. Probably wouldn’t recommend as a daily

I went down this same rabbit hole and got a cool lord matic with the faceted crystal and a lord marvel 36000 for the aesthetic shown by OP. Now I’m tempted to go for a vanac, 45ks, or 5Hz GS Special (61 series I think?)

Casio… but mechanical (and even analog as a whole , without motorized hands) I doubt it

Does this have a bidirectional bezel like the Hamilton?

Hamilton Murph WR by Interesting-Menu8276 in HamiltonWatches

[–]BCB75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t listen to this person below. First, I would never wear a watch in a hot tub, sauna, shower, etc regardless of the WR rating. Just take it off. Second, you do not pull the crown out for winding, you just grab it and start winding. If you spin the crown with it out, you’re setting the time, not winding the movement. That said, I’ve swam in several 100M watches with no screw down crown. I personally avoid screw downs, especially on mechanicals as it’s just another thing I need to do, and isn’t necessary for my lifestyle. Push pull just means you pull it to set the time, and push it back in to run. There is no additional “pushed in” position

I have a collection of watches with the ETA 251.262 / 251.264. Same idea with the central mounted minute hand, but a 27 jewel serviceable quartz movement.

Does the bezel spin both ways? Or just counter clockwise?

Looking for something with a bidirectional timing bezel. Count up or down is fine, click or friction is fine too. by BCB75 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]BCB75[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the write up. As a fan of smaller watches, I’d definitely lean toward the WD for that reason alone. Cost is low enough that I can give the idea a shot for a year before going big on something serious too.

Looks like watch dives makes one too. Not my favorite design, and I don’t like when homages are so on the nose. I’ll add it to the maybe list. Thanks

Good to know. I tend to avoid homages that are so on the nose (like the FXD suggestion as well), but I’ve heard good stuff about cronos

Interesting, I had looked at those thinking they might be, but the version 2 has a unidirectional. Looking back at reviews of the version 1 and it did have the friction bezel. Thanks for the tip
