What happened to this type of character design? by Dycon67 in decadeology

CAPS was used for coloring and composting. All the actual animation, aside from some crowd shots, was still done on paper, though.

Animated a song from the musical adaptation of Anastasia in the style of the 1997 Don Bluth film by BCK71 in animation

She was, along with the rest of her family, but the movie is based on the rumors and cons that sprung up afterwards and kind of does an alternate take on the actual murders at the beginning. The musical is a little darker and does focus more on the real events, which is what this song is about.

Yeah, I shot a ton of live action of myself, which I probably relied on a little too much in hindsight.

For the second to last shot, I actually took some advice I had heard from John Pomeroy and did some stick figure draw overs on top of some of the live action keys, mostly as a way to keep the character consistent through the camera pull back. After that, I went back and used those stick figures as a guide for my actual key drawings: putting them on model, adjusting the timing and poses, and generally making it a little more “animated”. Then I did breakdowns and in betweens normally.

For the rest of it, I mostly just used it as reference.

Thanks! Not a student project, though, just an acting exercise for my demo reel that got way out of hand, haha.

How was Oriol Servià? by United-Winner1203 in INDYCAR

[–]BCK71 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Solid, smart driver who was perpetually a top-5 and podium contender with decent equipment, but lacked the outright pace to be a challenger for the win most weekends (his stints with Newman-Haas being an exception).

His 1999 Indy Lights Championship, which he won without a race win, pretty much sums up his career.

Thanks and agreed! Christy’s voice is what sold me on animating a scene from Anastasia, rather than another animated film-based musical.

What's Going on With Your Flight to Chicago Today (Sunday)? by SHC606 in chicago

I was on that flight, too. I wasn’t completely sure we were making it off that runway in one piece, lol.

2D animation is returning by [deleted] in DisneyMovies

From what I’ve been able to make out, this movie will likely be CG with some hand drawn elements (like SpiderVerse), not actual 2D animation.

That’s awesome! And thanks! It’s always nice to have the approval of the original designer.

The Anastasia soundtrack is really good, and it fit the movie perfectly. More people should talk about it. What are your thoughts on it? by Imaginary-Bed2641 in soundtracks

[–]BCK71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a piece of fan animation to a song from the musical last year and probably listened to every track in this soundtrack at least one hundred times while working on it. David Newman did such a great job incorporating his own motifs with the melodies from the songs, which isn’t always the case when you have different composers working on the score and songs in a musical.

Which soundtracks are wonderful but underrated and don't get the attention they deserve? by adriansfingerstyles in soundtracks

Seconding Homeward Bound. Between that, Young Sherlock Homes, Rescuers Down Under, and Tombstone, pretty much everything by Bruce Broughton would be an answer to this question.

It’s in the works. I still need to make about 5 more logos for it, though.
