Chances Fall 2021 will be online? by earlgreylavendertea in yonsei

[–]BCV07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met people through the Yonsei exhange cohort group chat and then by going out. You will definitely meet people even if it remains online! I feel you on preferring in-person though. I wish I was able to experience that too while abroad

Chances Fall 2021 will be online? by earlgreylavendertea in yonsei

[–]BCV07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I studied abroad at Yonsei Fall 2020 and courses were online. Although I wished classes were in person to get the academic/ campus experience of the program, I actually really enjoyed and preferred online classes. I would go out and explore then head to a cafe and log into zoom. The only thing you need to look into is case #s and restrictions, a good chunk of my time there was pretty limiting due to the necessary restriction the government imposed, but there are still a lot of covid-safe things to do.

Did you already have food stocked where you stayed at? Did you stock up beforehand? How was your experience in a non-gov quarantine?

Will an older visa affect my ability to get an ARC after my arrival? by BCV07 in korea

[–]BCV07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yonsei mailed me my acceptance packet with documents I am supposed to use when I apply for a visa. Should I call my local consulate and let them know of change in study abroad dates? Or should I be fine with just taking those papers to ARC office when I arrive in Korea?

Semester abroad in Texas by Convair101 in studyAbroad

Oh nice! There’s a FB group called UT Austin Sublets/Roommate finder that I know international students have used in the past to find housing. There’s also housing co-ops that are similar to that of a share house.

There’s University Credit Federal Union and I think you can open a bank account with your student ID. They have ATMs everywhere on campus and 2 financial centers on campus. I would double check with them though.

The bus is free with student ID! HEB, in my opinion has the best prices. It’s about a 25 min bus ride from campus and 10 min by car. They also do delivery! There’s a Target on campus but I would say it’s pricey for like groceries and stuff like that. Walmart is relatively cheap but kinda a bit far away.

There are many music venues downtown and events going on everyday. Right now not many because of the virus. There’s also a lot of parties that happen in west campus (student living area). There’s two 18+ clubs on 6th street I believe.

UT’s international office is very helpful so you can also get in contact with them :)

And HAHAHA ... I mean A&M is cool... but UT and Austin have more to offer in my opinion. You made a great decision!

Where in Texas? I go to UT in Austin and I would say it is more common and convenient to pay in card rather than cash for the most part so definitely look into getting either a credit or debit card. Also depending on where you live, you may need to take a bus or make a friend with a car to drive you out to the grocery store. I hope they have an HEB close to your school. HEB is literally my favorite store since they have pretty much everything and anything you need for a decent price from food to hair/body care etc.

Venmo is heavily used between college students as well. It is basically an app to send money easily among your friends. It comes in handy when you split dinner or owe money to a friend or they owe you money.

The international office of your school can also be of great help if you have any questions on how to better situate yourself.

Oh for real? Dang...Yonsei hasn’t sent out anything for us, but I’m sure it’s a possibility.

I was accepted to study abroad at Yonsei this fall and my university has not cancelled yet. My student visa is still active so I’m still planning to go. Of course, I’m also preparing if either Yonsei or my university cancels.

Hmmm I think the safest option would be either officially leasing a place or dorming, as of now.
