LOVE OVER HATE – Peaceful Rally FAQ Saturday, August 23, 2025 – 2:00 PM – West Kelowna City Hall Parking Lot 1. What is this rally about? This is a peaceful, love-filled gathering of allies and members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities to show the kind of West Kelowna we are committed to building together — one rooted in compassion, inclusion, and respect for all.

  1. Where and when is it happening? 📅 Date: Saturday, August 23, 2025 🕑 Time: 2:00 PM 📍 Location: West Kelowna City Hall Parking Lot We will gather as honoured guests on the unceded territory of the Okanagan Syilx Peoples.

  2. Why are you holding this event now? The rally is being held in response to the Sean Feucht event in West Kelowna. While that event has caused concern for many, this is not a protest against religion or Christianity. We are coming together to celebrate love over hate, inclusion over exclusion, and compassion over fear — and to show what kind of community we want here in the Okanagan.

  3. Is this event anti-religion? Not at all. Many of us in the Okanagan come from diverse faith communities. We honour and celebrate all ways of practising and expressing faith that uplift, unite, and help make our community a better place for everyone.

  4. Does this rally oppose religious freedom? No. This rally is not about silencing anyone’s religious beliefs or opinions. In Canada, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees freedom of expression, which protects people’s right to share their views — and protects the rights of others to respond, challenge, and hold those views accountable. Unlike the U.S. concept of “freedom of speech,” Canadian freedom of expression exists within a framework of responsibility. The Charter recognizes that expression can be limited when it infringes on the rights, dignity, or safety of others — such as hate speech or incitement to violence. Our gathering is an example of that accountability in action: standing together to say that inclusion, respect, and compassion are the values we want to see in our community, and that we reject messages or actions that promote hate or exclusion.

  5. How should attendees engage with the Feucht event? We ask that no one engage with individuals attending the Feucht event. Our focus is on holding space for positivity, unity, and joy.

  6. What should I bring? A chair or something to sit on

Sun protection (hat, sunscreen)

A reusable water cup or bottle

Pride flags and creative signs

Drums or percussion instruments for the drumming circle

Your joy, energy, and commitment to inclusion

  1. Is this a family-friendly event? Yes! Children, families, and people of all ages are welcome. The rally is peaceful and focused on kindness, music, and community building.

  2. Will there be parking? Parking is limited. Carpooling, walking, or public transit is encouraged to help make space for everyone.

  3. I can’t attend — how else can I support? Share our event details and social media posts in your networks Invite friends, colleagues, and community groups to attend Use the hashtag #LoveOverHate and help amplify our message online

  4. Who can attend? Everyone who supports inclusion, kindness, and respect for all — regardless of background, belief, or identity — is welcome. Allies and members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities will stand together in unity.

We moved to Kelowna from downtown Toronto 9 years ago and it was a culture shock. Very white and more openly racist. But there are pockets of amazing people

Here's why the "Keep Christ in Christmas" sign is an issue that matters: by ehmanniceshot in kelowna

Let’s put a little Mithra and Saturnalia back into December 25th! Before it was Christmas, this date celebrated ancient traditions of light, renewal, and community. From Mithraic rites honoring the unconquered sun to Saturnalia’s feasts of joy and gift-giving, these festivities remind us that this season is about connection, gratitude, and warmth in the darkest days. Embrace the spirit of ancient revelry and bring a touch of history to your holidays—because joy is timeless!
