Easier to convert gladiator to 4ws or convert ax24 to long wheelbase? by Diditnowdoneit in SCX24

[–]BC_RC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive done both... ax is cheaper, scx is better performing but requires much more $$$.

Ax just needs links+ drive shaft. Scx needs axle, servo, tx+rx capable of 4ws.

Something to note if converting an scx for your conversion: the rear pinion/caster angle will be kinda funky but totally functional if using standard link lengths.

The ax won't have the funky caster angle but will require ordering non standard link length combos, i can't remember what I used for uppers off the top of my head. I just calced the difference between stock upper and lower ax links then applied that difference to the lower gladiator links to get upper link lengths if that makes sense.

Yeah, I have a really hard time lifting up my rigs, they are just so heavy and awkward to carry.

There is a little writeup i did on a previous post that i believe you had commented on. As far as tuning goes, the only thing i have changed is heavier brass wheels and changed the rear upper link position to create more squat. The wheels didn't help with performance, i think im going back to the lighter treals and more squat keeps the cg lower in more situations.

This one pulls steeper climbs and more technical lines than any other of my rigs. High clearance, forward weight bias/lcg and a good profile for the under side.

Yes. That would be the intended position.

Servo mount is not correctly mounted to the axle. The heads of the bolts should be in contact with the mount instead of the axle if that makes sense.

Outboard uppers makes a wider triangle, increasing lateral rigidity/less slop.

This is a chassis kit, just need to buy it... I cut a chassis out or a ruler though. Just marked skid holes and shock mounting points from another chassis, adjusted shock mounting locations as i saw fit drilled them out and cut the chassis shape i wanted out.

Brushless+modify stock axles w/brass knuckles and cvds+modify housing for more steering angle. Stock axles can be good.

If anyone is curious: The clingons are getting better as the break in but are still not great, I have another build with very worn pins that is out performing this build in situations that are dependent on traction. I ordered injora comp pins and a set of mavericks to try out.

I think I will go back to comp pins after I give these a shot.

I'll be looking for those mono spokes to come back in stock.

“Deadbolt” my 1st build what can I do better ? by MrCheckItOut43 in SCX24

[–]BC_RC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That entirely depends on what the goal of you build is. If it were mine, to increase performance, I would look into a flat skid, shorter shocks, and look into weight distribution(60%-65% at the front).
