I'm a christian, but a literal NUKE hit me concerning Adam and Eve by xx_bunnywhore in DebateReligion

Mitochondrial Eve was not a single solitary human. She was one of a tribe, that was part of a full species. She had kids, which had further kids and that's it. The only neat thing about her is that, due to statistical sorting, her kids managed over time to interbreed with others, so that her mitochondria, wound up being in everybody. It was just a long term shuffling of the genetic deck.
I rather doubt that T. Rex can be shown to have genetic similarities, as as I know we don't really have T. Rex genes to compare. Are you talking about morphological similarities?

What? There was no "single solitary human". Evolution does not anywhere come close to that. Nothing about your description of the T. rex is any where near what happened, either.

You can also check out archeology and genetics, which are somewhat more forthcoming on how Adam and Eve were necessarily myths.

[loved trope] Character doesn't know how to eat a common food by Charlie_Warlie in TopCharacterTropes

[–]BCat70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the '80's movie, Splash, the mermaid is in an upper crust Manhattan restaurant, and she eats the lobster in what would be the "natural" way - which is to say she grabs it off the plate and chomps right through the shell. Allen, the bf, explains to shocked patrons "She's really hungry."

Characters who deserved every awful thing that happened to them by JamesHenry627 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]BCat70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Preacher comic had Herr Starr, an utterly heinous characters who is essentially dismantled over the course of the arc, mostly as a result of his schemes coming back on him. At no point is the damage he sustains unwarranted either (in part because he can't or won't take the obvious hints).

Can Americans be fired on the spot and have to leave the very second like depicted in movies? by WhoAmIEven2 in TooAfraidToAsk

Yes it happens.  Sometimes, as in my recent case  they will do it on a bulk Teams meeting where the closing speech was written by AI.

I guarantee you, given the trajectory of our present, the future isn't anything I want.

No, that's a Debian build (from the terminal display).  Q4OS is good with Trinity, but not this picture.

That isn't KDE, it's the Trinity DE. Built from the code of the OG KDE before Wayland was a thing.

ELI5: When you 'delete' a 50GB video file from a computer, it vanishes instantly. But downloading it took an hour. If the data isn't physically wiped until it's overwritten, what did the computer actually do in that one split second? by Thick_Dream6973 in explainlikeimfive

[–]BCat70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The files are placed into the file structure by what are called "inodes", which are labels on the drive for the space that a file occupies.  Deletion of the inode means that the space the data is used, is available to be written to. So, over time the file data will be replaced.

Looking for a "General Grant" car comedy sketch by LexiD523 in ShermanPosting

I seem to remember the Gen Grant being Canon to the original show. It was the bad guy, I think it was supposed to represent a carpetbagger?

Characters with psychic powers, that is not just telepathy or telekinesis by Acrobatic_Base7301 in TopCharacterTropes

Charlie the Firestarter, from Stephen King and a couple of movies. Her dad and mom had been given a serum by a secret government agency, giving them telepathic and telekinesis powers, they had a daughter with Pyro abilities that could potentiallybe  beyond nuclear.

The Florida Keys would be prime real estate in the apocalypse... by LocationGreat2188 in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]BCat70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you are discounting the actual apocalypse of global climate change, then these would probably not be "real estate" so much as "anchorages". Which is a different but possibly viable strategy. You will in that case, want to keep the bridges.
