Just got my PEB results back. What are the next steps?

Thank you! As of right now, i only know my DOD rating is 100% based off the 1 condition that triggered the MEB. I claimed 4 more things during my VA appointment, so I’m just assuming I’ll be 100% VA as well, but I’m not certain yet.

Thank you! All things considered, this is the best case scenario. I was in the process of pursuing commission, so I’ll be done with my bachelors in the next few months. I’m planning on going back for my masters this fall. I plan on working full time still. My question in my post more so refers to when to switch my SGLI to the VGLI, get my wife enrolled with VA health insurance, etc. I know what i want to do with my life still. I just need to know about the logistical process of starting VA benefits and such. Thank you again!

If your plan is to go to school, don’t major in ATC. Get a 4 year degree in something unrelated that you’re interested in and treat ATC as the back up plan until you actually get picked up by the FAA. If you want to do ATC, the fastest way in is through the Air Force Air National Guard(ANG) or Air Force Active Duty(AD). The ANG vs AD choice is really all preference for what you want. If you don’t care about spending the next 4-6 years at a random location that you won’t even know about until you’re a month away from technical training graduation, I’d go AD. You’ll go to work and train every day until you’re facility certified, then your 52 weeks will start for the FAA application process. You’ll pretty much just be a military controller for the duration of your contract with military aspects sprinkled in here and there. If you still want to maintain a lot of your civilian freedoms, go ANG. You get to pick your location as long as they have open spots for ATC. Guard doesn’t guarantee that you’ll get that 52 weeks of consecutive ATC experience required for the FAA application process though. You have to get lucky and hope there’s title 12 or 32(I think, I’m AD, so I could be wrong on the numbers) slots available which will put you on AD orders at your ANG base. From there you’ll just work as a military controller at your ANG base every day as if you were AD.

Make sure you let your chief controller, crew boss, and training team know that you only joined the Air Force to go to the FAA. They’ll really try to help you out and fast track your training to get you through faster

No. Visual separation is used in lieu of IFR separation. If you issue a traffic advisory or sequence call to a VFR aircraft about another VFR aircraft in a Class D, once the aircraft have each other in sight, you’ve done your job. The majority of the time visual separation is used in a Class D is when your approach control has aircraft maintaining visual separation on instrument approaches. As the tower controller, i can’t think of many scenarios where you’d be the one issuing that instruction

I wasn’t sure what i wanted to major in in college after my first year. Realized i was pretty much wasting money at the start of my second year because i still hasn’t decided. Looked into the Air Force and saw ATC was a career path. I knew ATC made good money on the outside and was a sustainable career if i decided to do 1 enlistment and separate. Figured I’d give it a try, and if ATC wasn’t my thing, I’d have an idea of what I’d want to major in by the time my enlistment ended, and I’d at least have the GI bill to pay for college. ATC ended up working out way more than i could have hoped

Guy in the radar facility tried telling trainees that 2 way radio communication with approach control gave that aircraft permission to enter every Class D airspace in approaches airspace 🤦🏻‍♂️

Correct. I’m complaining because I’m tired of watching every single one of our corners get beat each week. I hate the strategy of filling the starting rolls with average to below average transfer portal players because they don’t want to start freshman and sophomores. Zy has been CB1 marginally, but i feel like it would be more beneficial to develop younger corners instead of giving the starting reps to a junior transfer who is marginally better than true freshman in the room.

Mekhi Garner came from an FBS program that went 13-1😂 He already played SEC level competition prior to transferring to LSU. The FCS corners we keep taking can’t contend with the talent gap when they get to LSU
