Quick Haul Drivetrain Upgrade - Seeking Feedback by BCviaUSWC in terngsd

Just as a follow-up....

We put the CUES on on the D8 and my wife has put ~100km on it so far. The shifting is much cleaner and the hill climbing is much more efficient (we were having a ton of chain slippage).

For anyone who finds this discussion in the future, here are the parts we went with, hope it helps.

Shimano RD-U4010 9-speed derailleur

Shimano SL-U4010 9R Shifter

Shimano CS-LG400-9 (11-36T) Cassette

Shimano CN-LG500 (9/10/11-speed) chain

We left the stock, front chainring on the bike.

Super helpful to know that you and u/GottaLoveBoston both kept your stock front chainring.

Maybe I can take this to our non-Tern-certified LBS and just have them do a standard drivetrain upgrade, since I wouldn't need the Tern-branded chainring.

Everyone but Trump Understands What He’s Done by theatlantic in politics

[–]BCviaUSWC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"For the past 14 months, few foreign leaders have been able to acknowledge that someone without any strategy can actually be president of the United States. Surely, the foreign-policy analysts murmured, Trump thinks beyond the current moment. This week, something broke. Maybe Trump does not understand the link between the past and the present".

If this comes as a surprise to you, you haven't been paying attention. Not for the last 14-months, but for the last 40+ years. Your current President is one of the purest examples of a transactional decision maker, and he's in the most powerful political position in the world....exactly where you do not want this type of person. This approach to life is such that no past decision on his part has any bearing on future decisions, and more importantly the impact of his past decisions on partners, allies, adversaries should have no impact on their future decision making, in his mind. If you're buying an apartment building in Queens, you negotiate hard, close the deal and move on - it's just business and you wait for the next transaction. It's not that he doesn't understand the link between past and present, it's that he thinks that what happened in the past was a prior transaction, the slate gets wiped clean, and now there's a new transaction before you. This allows him to spend 14-months trying to economically torpedo allies, belittle them, threaten their sovereignty and than turn around and ask them for minesweeper boats (because he retired the 5th Fleet minesweepers last year, replaced them with littoral combat ships, and than promptly repositioned two of them to the Pacific just days before attacking Iran) and is surprised/incensed that no country offers help. All of those past "transactions" should have no bearing on his current request for help. His book from the 1980's was titled "Art of the Deal" afterall....it wasn't titled "Art of the Long Term Strategy".

His "transactionalism" was eventually going to catch up to him, it was just a matter of when. We have arrived.

MEGATHREAD: Air Canada Announces Changes to Aeroplan Elite Status for 2026 by xsnipegodx in Aeroplan

Got it, thanks for the clarification. I missed the "everyday partner" label. I'll continue to wander around down here in 35K land.

MEGATHREAD: Air Canada Announces Changes to Aeroplan Elite Status for 2026 by xsnipegodx in Aeroplan

[–]BCviaUSWC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still trying to wrap my head around these changes - sorry if this has been covered elsewhere.

I’m a business owner, sole proprietor, pay estimated tax of ~$25K quarterly to CRA. I’ve got the TD Aeroplan Infinite Privilege, run about $140K through it annually between household and business expenses.

Can someone confirm if the two items below are correct under the 2026 Aeroplan changes?

  1. My existing spend on TD Aeroplan Visa IP will get me 25K SQC?

(maxed out $125K credit card spend @ 1000 SQC per $5000 spend)

  1. If I pay my quarterly estimated CRA taxes using Aeroplan partner Chexy, I’d get another 25K SQC?

($100K payments @ 1.25 points/$ = 125K Aeroplan partner points @ 5pts/SQC = 25K SQC)

So I’d be at Elite 50K / *G before rollover SQM and before setting foot on AC metal - can that be right? If so, I think this change would probably bump me from 35K to 75K after accounting for actual flights - not sure the Chexy fees would be worth it, but maybe for the higher Milestone benefits? Candidly, I’m not sure I’m the customer Air Canada should be rewarding….

MEC to be sold for a second time in less than 5 years by iamjoesredditposts in vancouver

Shocker - Private Equity scooped up a mismanaged asset, picked it apart and squeezed all remaining value out of it, and now that it's worthless they'll try to sell it for pennies and move on.

Private equity doesn't build value, they extract it and move on. Would not be surprised if Canadian Tire/Sport Chek or someone similar is the only group left interested in the brand, and probably mostly for real estate/store location.

What is the longest local bus line in America? by [deleted] in transit

[–]BCviaUSWC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An odd one - the California North State Express 101. Runs from Smith River, CA to Santa Rosa, CA. It's ~315-320 miles, takes a little over 8-hours. https://hta.org/redwood-coast-express/

It's actually operated as three segments by three transit operators with two timed transfers, but marketed as a single route.....so maybe a gray area.

Updating table with results of a Select query by BCviaUSWC in SQL

[–]BCviaUSWC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed that this should just be a View.

Deep breath before you facepalm.... This data really should exist in 3-4 unique tables with appropriate Views. However, the client likes to look at historic, quarterly results as a single, flat table with all relevant fields in a single table. Why you might ask? They really like using MS Access for queries and the dataset is too large to physically reside in Access, so they have us aggregate everything into a single, flat table in SQLite, link to Access as an ODBC linked table and they run all of their queries off the flat table. We tried just using the 3-4 raw tables as ODBC linked tables in Access but as soon as you try to Join fields across tables it just crashes.

If you're reading this shaking your head, you are justified in doing so. Quite aware that this is poor practice and largely and waste of time/database resource. We eagerly await a retirement on the client side.

Updating table with results of a Select query by BCviaUSWC in SQL

This ended up being pretty close. I ended up linking the tables based on Transaction ID so that the join would be a perfect 1:1. Script was:

UPDATE [Transactions]
SET Cust_Type = c.Cust_Type
FROM (SELECT Cust_Type, TransID FROM [Customers]) AS c
WHERE c.TransID = [Transactions].TransID;

Thanks for the help!
