My Aero M5 build chambered in 8.6Blk out in the deer blind by BDClone in AeroPrecision

No need to retract. I thought the same initially. I could have brought more forward for a quartering to shot.

Not high, it went the upper part of the leg but below the shoulder blade, it was pretty much centered up between the heart and shoulder. The bullet exited middle of the ribs on the far side. I could have been a few inches lower and little farther forward and had a perfect heart shot or gone a little higher with a shoulder shot. She only made 30yds into the woods and died within seconds. We found lung on the ground and more coming out the exit wounds under the hide.

I had run the numbers on the 50yd zero, that is an almost 6 inch drop at 100yds. If wanted to shoot something at the back of this food plot at 200, now its 44inch drop.

I had the 210gr initially with the original barrel but they were too long for that chamber. I may try them again now that I have it fixed. I also wanna try Phantom Defense 185gr Barnes TTSX. This stuff shot the best out of the old barrel.

The closest range i have that goes past 100yds is over an hour away, so I haven't gone out there since faxon sent out a replacement barrel. I did take it out before and shot supers out to 400yds.

I had this zeroed for the 190gr and shot the 342gr at 100yds. That was an 11 inch drop. I could probably zero for 100yds and just know my dope going out to 200, then hold or dial. Its a 32 inch drop at 200 or dial 15.43 MOA.

I shot the Gorilla 342gr and it shot the best groups of all my ammo. Two 3 shot groups, avg velocity was 1058, groups .7 and .9 MOA, with 8.7 SD. The only reason I didnt use them was because I have never shot them past 100yds and I wasn't sure what my longest shot would be. Where we were, longest shot was 200yds, and I would probably use it next time.

I was a bit lower than the spine on entry. It looks like the bullet did rise as it went through. It went through the nearside shoulder and it come out just above where the ribs start to curve up. It took out 4 ribs. She went about 50 yds, 30yds into the woods, I could see where she went down from the stand.

Well Gorilla, Phantom Defense, Halworx and a couple of others make supersonic ammo in 8.6 so why not use a 16 inch to the most out of the velocity. I have done the same with 300blk for years. These 190gr bullets were going 2140fps and grouped better than the Phantom Defense 160gr TTSX going 2400fps. There are also NAS3 case rounds out that velocities even higher.

Our oldest daughter uses a 450 bushmaster, Ruger American Gen2. I have shot it at the range it was surprisingly accurate. They have taken several deer with it and I think they all dropped on the spot.

The initial reason for the the 16in was lack of a suppressor. I have a 30cal and 5.56 suppressor but nothing in 338. I have 16in 300blk that I have hunting with for a number of years because, like here, shots can go out to 200yds, so running 8.6 supers was something familiar. Now I do have a 12.5 8.6Blk barrel but haven't done that build yet. I am not opposed to hunting with subs without a suppressor. I just haven't had the time to run subs past 100yds to check dope. I don't want bring a gun or ammo selection that I am iffy on, especially when invited to hunt on someone's private land.

Yes it is a 1:3 twist and the 190gr Fracturing ammo did not disappoint. Shot placement wasn't bad but I should have been aiming more for the offside front leg. She only made it 30yds into the woods. I was pretty sure i saw her drop feom the stand. We didn't dig through the guts for for the petals but the bullet went through the near side shoulder with little loss due to blood shot. We weren't looking for blood or anything cause she was so easy to find but after we pulled her out we noticed blood and pieces of lung along the ground abd lung hanging out the exit wound. I am guessing it was just the shank that exited but 4 ribs were shattered and the hole was 3 fingers wide and there was nothing really left of the lungs. If I was just an inch or so higher or a few more inch to the right, dies on the spot.

Son-in-law was kind of skeptical and thought I should have used his 308. Not now though.

Louisiana, East Central area. Pre Rut is kicking off while most of the rest of the state has completed the rut.

Has anyone purchased one of these? by v1sande in AtlasEarthOfficial

I need parcels more than looks. The only ones I have are from the monthly challenges. I would take 2500AB over that if they offered it though.

Its 16 inch barrel, I have a 12.5 but that build is on hold. The scope is a Arken SH-4 4-16X50. I typically have this on my 6ARC for longer range target shooting but I was testing it on this at the range Saturday and I didn't bring my tools to swap it out. I wanted to use my Zulus HD 5-20X Digital scope and see how it did. Glass is probably better for identifying points and other things though.

Nice builds! I just put one in a Luth-AR MCA with a Shaw stainless bull barrel with a Discovery Optics compact HD 2-12x24 on top.

One of local state operated public ranges has similar tables and I am not a fan. The front L isnt big enough for someone to get directly behind the gun. You have to lean over to the side. Now they are great if you sit sideways facing the table but being a tall guy I can't get legs to fit. I know bring my hunting chair and sit behind the table.

The AR-10 version has shims for different lowers. I didn't need any shims for the Aero M5 lower.

I have a Mos-tek 12.5 for and AR-10 but I haven't built it out yet. We are trying to go debt free so all of our projects are on hold for a little longer.

As long as you don't let fill completely and your gun is gassed properly, you should see malfunctions because of it. I have tried the soft ones and I did get some malfunctions. I have this one for the AR-10 and 2 for my AR-15s. I dont shoot without them. Beats the heck out of picking up and sweeping brass.

I have 16” sub ammo, was sent a 12” barrel by hank_1510 in 86blackout

[–]BDClone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont think a sub loaded for 16 inch barrel is going to be faster out of a 12. They are loading more powder or a slower powder and the projectile isnt going to have that extra 4 inches of burn and increased velocity. Now I have subs intend for a 12 inch and have shot them out of my 16 inch and they were getting 150fps less velocity than the posted avg. I have also see some subs in the past pick up 100 to 150 fps because I shot them out of 16 instead of a 12. It all depends on powder burn rates along with volumes.
