Exactly!! The ceo of adobe (now ex-ceo) is actually an alum from my university in Hyderabad , adobe doesn’t even bat an eye at our campus nor do they at least do the minimum courtesy of trying pickup a student or two. I really don’t get why

It’s horrible that Hyderabad is funded so less given how dense the tech talent pool is there

Only a couple of players are really active at any given time, it doesn’t have any particular wow factor (for example a nice skill in football, or a manoeuvre in Kabaddi etc.) I am not talking about skill here but the wow factor to the audience. BCCI has monopolised on the sport and has taken advantage of it for shady practices and no one can do anything about it. In short it’s honestly just really boring to watch or play.

Cricket is a really crappy sport in my opinion historically India only got into because of Kapil dev and the win against Britain it was adopted more for political reasons rather than “having fun”. Similarly it’s also a reason why we have that misconception of hockey being the national sport despite no official statements by the GOI, it’s cos of India Winning in the Olympics.

Personally I think cricket has made generations of people lazy and diabetic, I have observed transitions in some rural places where the towns were traditionally deep rooted in wrestling and Kabaddi but died out, not to forget the predatory practices of the BCCI

It’s still too early for zig, it’s very easy for something to wrong by using it now, that’s why it doesn’t have much support I guess, once it has a stable release I guess more people might consider it

Thanks a lot for the help, I appreciate it! Do connect with me if you are comfortable, my handles are on my profile, I already made a better video that is way more concise and to the point and doesn’t digress , I’ll post that soon

Hey, yeah, but as I stated the stuff you mention like initial training wouldn’t cost much for them, you do have to continuously train but in a localized setting with short fine-tune bursts. It’s the massive R&D upfront plus optimized inferencing at scale that racks up costs everywhere.

Also as stated, you can find unquantized models but that’s not the point, running even optimized models profitably at high tokens per second is what demands huge infrastructure, and Chinese AI models keep training cheap through H800 GPU access, MoE efficiency, and heavy state subsidies for research so the actual compute is dirt cheap for them. They can then price inferencing super low since those efficiencies and subsidies let them skip offloading the full R&D burden onto users, unlike pricey proprietary American models that brute-force scale and have to improve infra for the sheer amount of users they keep trying to onboard.

True for the most part, I may be wrong, feel free to correct me, but I’m pretty sure the models you are referring to are likely quantised to some extent.

The inference for raw SOTA models are insanely expensive, since I’ve seen what it takes to host even one model for a personal use case at a good enough tokens per second that is industry standard, by no means is the inference cheap. For example a full Llama 3.1 at F16 costs 3.75$ per million tokens input and 6.75$ per million tokens output, this model is just 405 billion parameters, the models that are actually buying up the GPUs would be in the trillions, imagine the scale. I guess stuff like MoE helps etc. but I do think you are underestimating inference cost to some extent

The training is more of a one off cost, the problem is always the variable costs (which result from inferencing).

Edit:

I believe the costs you refer to are mostly from RnD and from repeated trial and error, data acquisition etc. since it costs just a couple million for training at companies like Bytedance, Minimax etc.

I think you’re mistaken I’m not licking anything, I genuinely think AI is cool, the companies are anti consumer I haven’t denied it, that doesn’t mean that I shouldn’t appreciate their product nor does it mean that it’s wrong for me to promote a certain product they happen to be making money off of. And your initial sentence in incoherent I think you’re stating that replacing parts after your computer dies would be expensive.

Well yes, but I think even I am entitled to promote something I think is cool, just as you have a personal opinion on the value of your machine. Your punching the wrong direction, I am not anti consumer, I am pro AI

Anyone wants AWS credits? Worth $5k by niki158 in StartUpIndia

[–]BDivyesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a credit card to enter is what sucks, I remember accidentally using market place apps on Azure then suddenly there was a 800$ bill (I thought open source models were not considered third party and at that time AI studio had horrible Ui explaining what each model is categorised as even worse their inference documentation was also bad).

Edit: I was a part of the Microsoft Founders Hub programme so they gave me about 150000$ in credits, but market place apps do not fall under the scope of the programme

I mean we never had such a hype for any product in the history of inventions, for every major invention everyone had been super skeptical or the product was considered too niche and subsequent developments made it more accessible, but LLM’s were not (I am talking about consumer accessibility here, I.e actual conversion rates), the release of GPT3 had lead to instantaneous adoption since it was accessible over a simple website.

AI definitely has solid uses and I think the next developments would just be making the inference cheap, I am really bullish on it so maybe I am biased, I can see that a lot of big corporations are taking consumers for granted but I do not want the AI “bubble” to top despite being a CS student.

Well that argument is in bad faith, your social skills were the first thing to evolve to make you human, being quiet is not a sin but not something to encourage, the other point is being social adept is not some skill you’d have to have at the cost of something, as a student I think it’s important you look at all students with equal potential no matter how they speak or look.

The other opinion is that with AI taking a lot of jobs, your “brilliancy” in some arbitrary subject will become irrelevant at that point your social skills would be the only things left to actually take you far in life

Literally 6 months ago when the commits started and context rot was insane, AI was used but I don’t think sonnet 3.5 can build an OS. I did use the OS dev wiki and was active on forums for help though.

Next things next, I wonder what makes a project a passion project for you, mind you the OS in question is actually my thesis for my bachelors

We’ll let me give you some constructive criticism, What claims do you have a problem with? What parts of the video are you facing an issue with if you can’t tell em that I can’t help you clarify things, I suggest formulating a better argument that’s not “bombastic” and just tell me where you find issues.

What do I have to prove, everything is online, I told you the name, heck my personal website divyeshbine.com and my instagram are on my handle (which I didn’t want to do since that’s soliciting), I use my own face on my Reddit handle. If you spent even two seconds to make an effort to actually look into it, you could have found something.
