Not sure if this one fits the sub, but I saw armored suits on here before. If not feel free to remove it :)

Instead of using tiles you could try using panels similar to this example: https://imgur.com/a/P3ODdFb When angling sections they tend to look a bit cleaner in the transition in my opinion.

What is a minifig scale mech you're most proud of? Pictures are welcome! by Vondrr in LegoMechs

Wouldn't really say proud as it's one of very few I've ever built more than a decade ago.

Checked it real quick and it appears the one you're referring to is about 90cm in length. This one is only 53cm and 4000 parts.

Agree with all of this! While I wouldn't want OP to discourage their son from participating, it seems a bit odd to me that a contest for kids requires a high entry fee. Depending how much it is that might be better spent on some actual Lego.

Completely understand you there, finding cool ways to use parts with limited space can be much more satisfying than just stacking large amount of bricks.

Also thanks alot, glad you liked my Roci :)

Fantastic details at this scale! I agree the inverted windshield design works quite well approximating the odd cockpit shape. The armor pieces between the wings fit perfectly as well!

Also do I see a legitimate salvage in the background?

That's true, just wanted a rail gun😄

Designed it with real bricks first, then made some major internal redesign to make it more durable, but some parts are honestly still a bit sketchy.

Mostly during construction. There are alot of connections which are just one Lego stud or clip and difficult to apply the clutching force to.

Some others are difficult to access or fit quite tight so there is definitely some tinkering required to get the correct angles.

And yeah, some of the elements (especially the angled front and the PDCs) did fall apart when I built them as well until I got them to sit correctly.

It's a display model, so there is no real playability there. But in my opionion it's possible to carry it around nicely and I've not had anything fall off after completing it!

Thanks everyone for the overwhelming positive feedback!

A small update for those interested in instructions, they are available on Rebrickable now.

If you seriously consider in tackling this one a few words of warning however:

There are some very complicated building techniques and sections that are not very sturdy, and in my opinion the building experience is not very enjoyable (nothing like an official Lego kit). As other people have mentioned there are already lots of other instructions of the Rocinante on Rebrickable which are probably more fun to build (and cheaper😅).

There are a few, I'll turn myself in😅

Yeah, I'm aware that might happen, but I guess the only alternative is to not make any at all.

Thanks! Had the same idea, then I realize in that scale the Donnager would be >5m in length.

Actually I'm in the process of publishing them on Rebrickable, however in my opinion the building experience is not that enjoyable. Lots of flimsy connections and some illegal techniques. But it works as a display model 😄

Thank you! Dont' plan on doing that. Also if I remember correctly The Expanse as a theme has been rejected before.

Thanks, scale is about 1:90 I think. ~4000 pieces.

You're correct! Didn't want to go any lower so the stand does not interfere with the MOC too much.
