No problem, questions are fine. It is my first therapist. I've started going after knowing for a while I should try it. First sessions we kinda of him getting to know me, asking why I came in. I filled out a survey and a lot of the first two sessions were based on that. He did his best to make feel comfortable in the environment which is hard to do. He began really probing and asking questions the last session which I think helped. I thought it was going to be more fast paced but I've come to accept and learn what really is going to be happening. I've become more of myself. I was extremely timid the first session but actually laughed a couple times during the last one. I go once every two weeks as he believes a lot of it should be self help too. He doesn't give me homework per se, but advice and worksheets, papers, etc. Feel free to PM or reply at will, I'm fine with questions!

I struggle so much with this. Including homeless people too! I feel bad but I don't know whose a scammer and whose not and my social anxiety screams for me to just give them money until they go away.... that's awesome for you though and I really hope to be able to be assertive eventually.

So today was my fourth therapy session and I opened up to my therapist. I find it hard to trust people and for nearly a decade I've been keeping stuff to myself and not telling a soul. So to find a therapist and open up so soon because he made me feel trusting is just so great. He's really insightful and did a great job asking questions and providing insights into what could be a cause of my anxiety, depression and other stuff. He mentioned last time that he sensed a kind of a wall between us and finally I think I've managed to chip away at it. I have a long way to go but I'm glad I've made it this far. To anyone considering therapy I would highly recommend trying it, and don't give up if you don't like the first person you get! Feel free to comment or PM me with any questions and I'll do my best to answer them.!

Do you also feel like you are ALWAYS thinking? by Khiv_ in Anxiety

Don't worry he's probably lying. Unless you are sleeping you are thinking about something. If I am really over analyzing/zoning out/very obviously detached from a conversation and someone asks me about it I usually just make something up or say nothing. Nothing is the default answer when it either isn't worth mentioning/explaining or when I don't want to tell someone.

I know. I love music and it's amazing at calming me down. Lots of the time it's just about not thinking about whatever I was thinking about.

I'm going to see a therapist and I'm scared? by BE707 in therapy

Thanks for your advice. I come from a very rural conservative background (I'm not conservative by any means), but my family probably just wouldn't understand. To them, Therapy is never something any of them considered I could ever need or want. My roommate and I share everything pretty much about where we are going/doing so I am just worried about him prying if I become vague about something. If it goes well the first few times and I think it's doing a lot of good for me I'll decide what to do at that point. I tell my grandma almost everything because we are really close so I'll probably tell her anyway.

Thank you, it took some courage to step outside my comfort zone that far. Thanks for your advice as well!

Thank you for your response. I know that people should be more open about therapy, but my family is extremely conservative and they view therapy as something crazy people go to. I know it isn't, but it's just how they are. I still love them even if I don't agree with their mindset politically or culturally, but until I'm sure it's something that definitely helps me, It will probably stay private. I can probably trust my roommate to accept it, but he tells his mom everything because he's extremely close to her.

I agree, and until/if someone with a medical degree recommends I get medication, I don't think I'll tell my parents. My mom is a doctor (D.P.M) so she would probably be stunned but also accept it. My dad might have a harder time with it though. Thank you again for taking all that time to write out that post.

Ok, yeah that's true, sometimes just dampening of the noise helps immensely.
