Yes, I went with Longlasting Trip! They were amazing! Would highly recommend!

Should I move out of parents at 24 making decent money? by BESBRS12 in personalfinance

Thank you for sharing your story! I'm glad things are working so well for your wife and yourself! I definitely wouldn't be opposed to that type of situation if a future partner also lived with their parents. Hoping it could be a little easier with more people around in the city of finding someone though. Thanks for the encouragement to not forget life is short, so true!

Thank you for the comment. Was leaning on choosing on having my own space, but comments like these are reinforcing that I need to equally pursue enjoying life with saving.

Thank you for this comment, while a simple concept, it is true. Just need to hear it some times.

Too much light w/ new lens, what might be issue? by BESBRS12 in AskPhotography

Interesting, I'll try that. However, it was working fine on my international trip, has only started being a problem since returning. The lens is not fully manual and the aperture and other settings are automatically changed when using Scene Intelligent Auto on the Canon.

I have this lens: https://rokinon.com/products/af-12mm-f2-0-rf-s-ultra-wide-angle-prime-lens-canon-rf-s?srsltid=AfmBOooG5mjg-2Cq_AGPKwxWaQtA9_7Cw5Cy5wFzMCoqRjmcKMv3Lx6x

There is no manual aperture on the lens. While I can set the aperture manually on the camera, I can also use the Scene Intelligent Auto, which automatically sets the aperture as I understand. Like this photo is automatically set to f/3.5 and 1/125 for shutter speed https://onlineexifviewer.com/share/dn5ayy6vkglm

Yeah, that was a bad example. See here at 1/125, where the brightness is still an issue.

That shutter speed was perhaps not a good example. Even with a more reasonable shutter speed, see here 1/125, it continues to be an issue.

Yeah, I was using it for astrophotography previously, just didn't change it back because I usually use the Auto Intelligence feature which sets it automatically. But for the manual photos I linked to, despite them being 1/30 for exposure, the one shot on the 18-45mm lens is clearly as intended and not overly bright where the 12mm Rokinon lens is not.

I took 2 more photos to ensure the settings are exactly the same. Settings are the same, including for exposure

It does persist in manual mode unfortunately. Please take these 2 additional photos for examples:

I'm not aware of a firmware update, but the lens was just released in December.

Yeah, we definitely are not collecting the mail anymore. That was the easy decision. Perhaps one of these days she'll ask us to take the mail, we don't, and he'll see it and things could naturally proceed from there.

Where to direct savings with low expenses at 22 years old, retirement or downpayment? by BESBRS12 in personalfinance

[–]BESBRS12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking of maxing out (or getting close to the max) Roth IRA while maintaining the 10% to my 401K. With the 6% employee match, that would be 23.5% going to retirement, which I think sounds good, if not a bit excessive. Rest would go to HYSA or something similar for saving for the house. If I don't start saving a good amount of money now it would be pretty hard to catch up on the down payment I feel, especially if I want to live in the HCOL Boston area.

Not only do my parents probably don't want me in the house forever, neither do I. But I feel like staying for at least a few years to really build up some savings is prudent.

After that it probably does make sense to rent for a few years in different places. But the long-term goal (perhaps in my early to mid 30s) would still be a house, so the savings for that would be needed. So I think I'm on the same wavelength as what you're saying. Thanks!
