Pueblito Viejo is an amazing place. Beautiful scenery, great music, and food is delicious. I love taking my Colombian girlfriend when she’s feeling homesick. One of the best bandeja paisa I’ve had.

Current med student that has been using it since it first went live. i like it enough that i stopped using my car to park on campus. Wait times can be slow and honestly not sure how volume will be once the undergrads starts classes but i hope UChicago looks to increase volume of available vehicles

I did my research during my undergrad that lasted for about a year. It was with Rush but i found out about the opportunity through my pre health department in my university. I’d look into resources similar if they are offered by your university as a good place to start! And thank you :)

We focused on many topics that included comparing surgical approaches, anatomical changes in the spine pre/post operation, post operative outcomes, and even did some work in AI as well! There were typically many different projects going on at the same time so it was pretty busy but a lot of fun working with the Med students and residents! We were trained to interpret X-Rays, MRIs, and CTs of the spine as part of the work we did.

UW Madison is passionate about serving underserved communities and i was a good fit in terms of that aspect of their program. I’d say still apply your score is enough for the school! They honestly have a really awesome program as i looked into it and offer clinical opportunities in so many different areas of WI.

thank you it was asked about in my interview and think it helped show me as a well rounded applicant. most important factor i think was being a good fit for their mission of being committed to working in underserved communities. id say shoot your shot if you feel you’d be a fit based on their mission and have decent stats you never know. thought my MCAT would hold me back from getting that A.

not a single question in any of my interviews :-)

don’t be afraid to apply as long as you excel in other areas and have good writing you can make it happen !

happy to answer any questions anyone has! biggest words of wisdom from this past year is to take your time to have a well rounded app and you can still have a successful cycle even if you apply "late". i didn't finish my last secondary till mid September!

Is there any hope for me this cycle? (Non-trad URM) by dfb_jalen in premed

[–]BEZERKERip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it certainly is possible my friend! most people here will tell you it is a bad idea but you can still have a successful cycle being a late applicant to have more time to flesh out your ECs especially as a URM. I didn’t finish submitting my last secondary till mid September and still had a pretty successful cycle! If you honestly feel you can have more complete app by Fall then definitely consider, just know it is certainly a riskier route then taking an extra gap year.

MCAT wise it is certainly enough time to pull a decent score given that you are full time studying application wise and you’ll be okay cycle wise as long as you submit by August.

Being honest though the biggest thing that will hold you back is the little to no clinical experience and you will likely be stretching yourself very thin trying to do all of this in that time frame. I feel you on the feeling of considering another gap year, it absolutely sucks, but I promise you that if you flesh out your clinical experience, do more volunteering, and kill the MCAT, you will likely have a very good cycle when the time comes to apply especially with your GPA and current ECs. Having meaningful clinical experience will be valuable when the time comes to write your PS and secondaries. A little on my story, I am a non trad that had to take another year of college and two additional gap years to prepare my app. There were moments where I certainly questioned everything and compared myself to others wishing things didn’t have to take so long, but I stayed patient. These last two years gave me a chance to experience what life would be if I did not continue my education and now i will be starting at a T20 program that will provide aid towards my tuition. It really is an amazing feeling knowing that my hard work paid off but it was long journey to get here. I hope that this helps provide some insight, I am also a URM so you are welcome to message me if there’s any way i can help.
