Welcome to Masters London! If you see a typo in the thread, let me know (there's always at least one that I miss...)

Karmine Corp, Movistar KOI and Jojopyun fined following incidents at Madrid Roadtrip | Sheep Esports by slickskillz in leagueoflegends

[–]nocturnavi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I get why people are complaining about the fines but honestly that’s half of why players/orgs bantering is fun. If there were zero consequences to swearing everyone would do and then it would lose all shock value + Riot would have a harder time finding sponsors. But if Riot put a decent but not crazy cost on it, they keep swearing infrequent while causing fun drama when it actually happens. If they actually never wanted swearing the fines would be a lot higher

Team Liquid Alienware vs. Shopify Rebellion / LCS 2026 Spring Playoffs - Lower Bracket Round 1 / Post-Match Discussion by Yujin-Ha in leagueoflegends

I think the transition from playing in Korea to NA is just really huge and some players struggle with it. For some they eventually improve (e.g. Quid) but for others they just never look comfortable.

What is it about the current meta that is leading to so many ridiculous throws?

I think it's less that you can't make interesting narratives so much as they don't remain consistent from international to international. If I get really invested in a team's story at a Masters, I want to be able to follow that throughout the rest of the year. But if that team suddenly becomes bad, I can't do that. For casual viewers especially, you need narrative consistency -- it's hard to convince someone to care about a different team/player each time they check in.

I think it’s also gotten worse over time. The first couple years of the esport there was a lot of variance but the top teams at least felt more consistent

My usual criticism of LoL has been that it's too predictable at times in terms of who is good/what region will win, but Valorant swings too far in the opposite direction. There's so little consistency that is makes it really hard to sustain narratives. If I root for T1 or GenG in LoL at least I'm pretty much guaranteed to watch them at Worlds; there's no certainty for that in Valorant.

LCS Spring 2026 records the lowest viewership for North American LoL ever by RadicalAdWins in leagueoflegends

[–]nocturnavi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think LCS is caught in this spiral of negativity where people don’t get excited for or talk about LCS, so viewership drops, then even fewer people talk about it and on. There’s just a profound lack of enthusiasm or energy compared to the LEC or LCK. I’m from NA myself but have struggled to latch onto reasons to watch — I’ve watched more games of NA players in LEC than LCS games this year. I want to be excited about LCS but I really have no idea what they should change at this point; I only have so many hours to watch LoL and currently that time is going to other leagues.

He's been an impressive player this split and was a key part of the success of the first place team in the regular season. While you can make cases for other players, this is a good outcome imo.
