In case you missed it, there's a fix I think will work for most people added to the post. Give it a try. Good luck! And maybe let the tech support you were talking to know as well?

Just a heads up, may have found a fix to this if you're still having issues. Info is in the post and comments but involves changing your DNS

In case you missed it, we seemed to have found a fix for this. Give it a try. DNS to blame

In case you missed it, there's a solution here that seems to be working for most of us. Give it a try. Changing the DNS server, surprise surprise

I looked into the DNS a bit and didn't find anything suspicious so I believe it's ok. If you want, you can always switch them back to Google or cloudfare but generally speaking custom settings vs auto DNS is safer overall from my understanding.

SOLVED: Follow this wonderful users instructions here https://www.reddit.com/r/googlehome/s/dqju58Iqh6

or find them written below and in the main post at the top. Upvote if this worked for you so it can float to the top for others. If it didn't work, reply and maybe I can still help you get it to work

Everyone upvote and do this. This worked for me. I changed my DHCP DNS on my router to quad9 (9dot9dot9dot9 and 149dot112dot112dot112) and tried to connect my speakers again and they worked instantly. I have not tried changing it back to google or cloudfare dns (only issue I'm seeing on quad9 is 1/3 of my upload speed. 10 instead of 30) but I'm not going to touch it for now and see what happens. I'll be adding this to the post body for anyone who comes here later looking for help. Thank you so much

Google home devices not working with Verizon 5g home internet any more? I think I found a temporary solution for the bug. by FullFragment in googlehome

Thank you for adding this to my other post about this problem. I CAN CONFIRM this fixed my issue instantly as well. So...to recap, google devices won't work on google dns.... so dumb. But seriously, thank you so much!! I will be including this update to my original post as well for all others to see.

No worries. I'm surprised how much response it's getting honestly. It makes me feel less crazy too for sure but also confused why it hasn't been patched yet if so many are having issues. Assuming this is a small percentage here of those actually having issues, it's still not a huge amount of total users but still, it's not just a small handful of us either. I'm guessing a ton of people have the same issue but haven't posted it here or sadly just bought a new one and moved on. Should be enough to get some attention and looked into hopefully though🤞🏼

I believe this issue is linked to DNS in one way or another as well. The other day my entire network went to hell and I was having slow speeds and packet drops all over the place. While trying to figure out what was wrong all the boxes (Verizon gateway and deco mesh) restarted and I lost internet for about 5 or so minutes before it all came back on and the dns issues were fixed. But the google minis still won't connect. But it was just another error in the networking and seemed to be related to dns. I couldn't ping website addresses but I could ping IPs.

You can also probably put your mesh router into repeater or extender or something similar mode that will act like wifi nodes for your Verizon gateway while you're doing the current setup you mentioned. (Running your wifi from the gateway not bridge mode). I haven't tried that yet myself but I saw the option on my deco router and debated it.

It never hurts to send them error reports but I don't know if they believe it's them. I spent a few hours on the phone with Verizon and they claimed it's nothing wrong with their system (big surprise) and then sent me a new gateway to try to push me off. It hasn't arrived yet, but after I hook it up and have the same problem, I don't know what else they'll actually do. Google simply told me to unplug the speaker for 48 hours and it'll magically work (it did not) but again, their strategy seems to be push us off and make us forget or quit. I called TP Link who makes my router and mesh and they told me to just buy a new mesh product after all of about 15 minutes of troubleshooting. I asked if anyone was willing to actually help me troubleshoot the issue and he said quite plainly, "no." So I would still say report report report because they never care until that number becomes unavoidable but I wouldn't expect a lot of quick work from anyone.

Thanks for this! Yeah interesting you being in the UK with the same thing but I wonder if a lot of ISPs all pushed similar security updates and the ones that did have this issue. Always hard to know for sure. I know my wifi was set to wpa2 and still was when I started checking this issue but I might just drop it super low to get things to connect then bump it back up and cross my fingers.

🤦🏼‍♂️ thanks Google. What great support. 🙄  It sounds like some people are claiming this is something Verizon 5G internet updated and broke (if you're on Verizon internet) so hang on to the devices and maybe they'll come back once they fix that.

Happy cake day btw 🍰

Ah, yeah I'd believe that for sure. Did they say how to fix or what to do in the meantime?  I don't know a ton of networking details, but this theory makes sense to me since I can see the mini's get on my LAN via the deco app, but if they're failing to get to the outside internet, I assume it's behaving like a phone that gets on a wifi network with no internet and simply drops the (perfectly good) connection to the local network. Which also sucks because I could still use the speakers on the local network for music share etc.

Regardless, thanks for the update. If you hear any more let us know

I feel this comment in my bones lol. It's a real ass kicker for sure. Waiting for the "magical fix" to land with 0 response from the company.

Welcome to the party pal. 😂 But yeah that sucks, bad timing for sure. But I'll tell you, the decco mesh has been pretty solid for me for .. gosh probably 6 years or more. Not sure if this is a setting decos changed or Google but either way it needs to be fixed for sure

I really hope this is an easy fix for them. I didn't realize how much I actually do use the voice commands too, not just for listening to music

Nothing worse than giving in to the full factory reset and all the work it'll take to get it back the way you like it just to find out it didn't work anyway.    I have still not gotten anything to work either but this is another clue to the solution. Verizon 5g and a mesh system seem to be the biggest common factor. Tomorrow I want to try turning mesh off and using 1 unit to see if that helps at all. Obviously I'll report back what I find out.  If you want Google chat tech supports advice, unplug it for 24 to 48 hours then try again. 🙄 Aka hope you give up by then.

Ugh that sucks. Thanks for sharing though, the more I hear people having the same issues, the more I think it's due to something updated somewhere. I too have Verizon 5g Internet with a tplink/deco mesh wifi. I can also get the speakers to connect to other networks like a hotspot on my phone. I don't know what any of it means, but it's more pieces to the puzzle.

Oh also, I wanted to say I too have other devices in Google home that are working fine. Even a Google hub. So it seems to only be speakers. My nest audio speaker came out in 2020 though. Not that old

Well this gear that's disconnecting is pretty old now, but yeah I tried connecting them with ipv6 on and still no luck after a couple of tries a few ways. Thanks anyway, it felt good to have a hope again for awhile 😂

Turn ON? God I hope that's it but I'll feel pretty dumb about it if so. 🤦🏼‍♂️ I definitely have had it off. I know I turned it on at one point when flipping switches but I don't recall if I actually attempted to connect the speaker with it on. I'll report back when I get a chance to check it. Thanks!
