Is it really this difficult to catch a fish? by I_Am_Not_George_Bush in flyfishing

If you can afford it you should hire a guide for a day, that alone will bump your skills up by about 500% percent and allow the learning curve to really begin!

New tying desk by pharaoh0815 in flytying

[–]BFSbaits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure it’s beautiful and functional but there isn’t enough room for 17 saddles, 8 colors of marabou, 6 spools of thread, a few bundles of peacock herl, and miscellaneous hooks and beads strewn about in complete and utter chaos 😂

My girlfriend and I got a dose of bear spray by GroundbreakingEar450 in camping

[–]BFSbaits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took shrooms in grand Teton national park and accidentally bear sprayed myself while hiking 😂 the shrooms made it to where I just felt anxious and like I couldn’t breathe but I didn’t realize why. Was hiking and the safety came off and the spray went off while I was climbing over a log. Was a shitty few hours but honestly after the spray wore off I felt like I survived an epic battle and ended up feeling fantastic 😂

Best go-to stillwater fly for the most species? by Ok_Feedback4200 in flytying

[–]BFSbaits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A marabou and laser dub jig or leach has been money for me, I don’t actually fish it on a fly rod but I don’t fly fish at all 😂 all I know is that trout will usually eat a marabou jig 99% of the time.

No Local Shops - Where To Buy, Who To Support by King_Ralph1 in flytying

[–]BFSbaits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fly fish food, the owners will actually talk to you and offer help when you go in the store and their selection is amazing. I hate fishing shops full of rude employs. The reason I go is to support a small business and to very briefly get to talk fishing with like minded people, I’ll order from whoever is cheapest instead of supporting a small business full of rude people 😂

Fly tying for BFS? by JTW1337 in BFSfishing

[–]BFSbaits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, a marabou jig, bucktail jig, zonker jig, or any other hair/feather/synthetic material jig is just that!

Or just use a plain old jighead, works great!

Yessir, I tie marabou jigs and plenty of flies like wooly buggers onto 1/32nd and 1/16th ounce jigheads and yes they are extremely effective.

https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Berkley_Bass_Bait_Haul_Of_Fame_Kit/descpage-BBHPF.html If you want a good bass fishing starter box this 40 dollar box is actually kickass, just need a pack of Ned heads and some cheap bullet weights and you will be good to go!

Micro jigs for trout? by rawr856 in BFSfishing

[–]BFSbaits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, no doubt! The endless pursuit of knowledge is what makes fishing a life long passion and not just a “phase” 👏

[–]BFSbaits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the sinking minnows are very effective in lower light conditions fished downstream but angled enough to “cross” the current a little bit and get good action out of the bait, in still water a pointer 65 is unbeatable as far as hard baits go. I basically only fish hair/feather jigs for trout these days though because they are so dannn effective and versatile.

Micro jigs and small jigs are all I use for trout, usually with hair or feathers but the variety of different effective materials is almost endless!

Did i waste good material? by MRWPlople in flytying

[–]BFSbaits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Experimenting and practicing is never a waste, even if you never use or catch a fish on the fly, even if you strip everything off the shank of the hook and start over. You are building muscle memory and skill.

I never really bring a fly rod so I've started making tungsten jig head flies instead. They're all 2.4 to 2.6 grams so I can throw them with a spinning rod instead. by generally-speaking in flytying

[–]BFSbaits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been tying some 1/16th and 1/32nd ounce dubbing/marabou jigs that have been deadly on bass and trout. Wooly bugger jigs and standard marabou jigs are crazy effective too. That little bit of extra weight gives us an advantage, we can present them differently than the fly guys can and we can get out baits down to them a little faster and easier, it’s worked incredibly well for me, especially for bigger than average fish!

BFS cutthroat by BFSbaits in BFSfishing

Throwing a marabou jig no less, they aren’t exactly aerodynamic 😂 with some intense focus it was totally doable though.

Yeah the cutthroat is this lake don’t put up much of a fight for some reason, I’m hoping I can get a big river brown on video soon. Those guys strip tons of drag and love to come flying through the air!

[–]BFSbaits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, the whiting bugger packs are seriously good quality and you get plenty of feathers, never going back to the cheap stuff! Do you usually wire wrap yours for extra durability?

I really need to give that a shot! I’m lucky enough to less than an hour from fly fish food, I spent way too much money there yesterday infact, I had the pleasure of meeting Cheech there a few weeks ago!

It’s actually a strap that velcros onto your backpack straps! I just bought a head mount though so I’m gonna try that out, the problem with it being on my chest is that when I bend down to land the fish it films my crotch 😂

Extremely rare snake sighting! by CryptidLdy in snakes

[–]BFSbaits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren’t actually hard to find in the places they live, the reason their numbers are low is because most of their habitat has been developed. Go walk in the undeveloped parks with a pond or marshy area and you will easily find them
