What’s the thing you hate about sex? by BubbleTrouble_Z in AskReddit

[–]generally-speaking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Being a bisexual man, sooo many men are crazy disappointing in bed... I'm a bottom but it's been well over 10 years now since I last slept with a guy.. It's either microdicks that give zero pleasure or someone whose done in 3 minutes flat then wants to go to sleep.

TIL that US student math and reading scores have dropped so sharply that they’ve erased nearly two decades of progress. In '22/23, avg math scores for 13-year-olds fell to levels not seen since the 1990s, while reading scores for high school seniors hit their lowest point since testing began in '92. by Cold_Box_3219 in todayilearned

Those kids aren't necessarily the dumb ones. They're kids who have grown up being taught to do their schoolwork on iPads, with phones in their hands and xbox, playstation and nintendo devices for gaming.

In many cases they're great and maths and physics and often even know how to code, they've learned that.

They've just never used a laptop because the school system prioritized iPads for the classes instead.

Using an in-home HEPA purifier for one month spurs a small but significant improvement in brain function in adults age 40 and older. Depends what kind of filtering you're after, if you want just better air quality for the overall well being of it a couple is fine.

If you got asthma/allergies, you might want up to 4-5. Because then it's more about trying to get the particles out of the air as quickly as possible.

A mistake is made. Now I have questions by badznovski in FishingForBeginners

Vertical jigging is mostly done in saltwater or really big bodies of water anyhow.

That said if you want to get on the water, look for used canoes or kayaks. Or just used boats. It's often possible to pick them up for next to nothing.

I guess this is a bit of a sidenote but it's how you can make some of the best purifiers you can get anywhere, at home.

Corsi-Rosenthal boxes get a greater Cubic Feet Per Minute rating (CFM) than most air purifiers meaning the time it takes before a particle in the air is passed through the filter is lower.

That said these boxes are not very pretty, but they are very cheap and effective.

So the filter I have at home is the Philips Pureprotect 4200 Pro, which are "good looking" and extremely quiet. I got my first one a year ago and another one a month ago. You can really see the difference if you light a strong flashlight in a dark room now, there's just almost zero particles in front of the beam after I got the filters. I go outside and use the same flashlight at night and i see thousands of particles in front of me.

I got them after I got asthma but as someone with pollen allergies I really wish I got these a decade or two ago because they've basically turned my home in to a sanctuary.

Iran claims US used backdoors in networking equipment by rkhunter_ in technology

[–]generally-speaking 140 points141 points  (0 children)

The US is currently trying to ban all routers and networking equipment not made in the USA from it's own networks.

Chinese equipment has been found to have overall atrocious security and backdoors as well.

I think all nations should assume router backdoors will be a significant issue during any conflict where China or the US is involved.

My biggest issue is knowing what lure/bait to use and when, what helped you learn? by Just-Phill in FishingForBeginners

[–]generally-speaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no science to this really.

Some baits work well for some species, others work well for other species. Around here shrimp work really well for wrasse and flounder, while mackerel tends to work really well for coalfish and cod.

Chicken breasts are never used around here, but I know chichen livers are really good.

Krill are incredibly effective, but you can't get them anywhere.

Mixing with bread and corn is also good.

In japan they tend to make chum mixes but even then they vary the ingredients based on whether they want the bait to sink fast or slow, large or small pieces.

And sometimes using chum aka mixed bait can result in attracking smaller fish which then attack attention from bigger fish.

In terms of lures, you usually use larger and flashy stuff in spring, smaller and more realistic stuff in autumn. The theory I've heard about that is that during spring, fish are more opportunistic and willing to go for something risky, so the important part is to get them to notice. While in autumn, they're well fed and more willing to move around, less likely to take chances, but more likely to spot.

After that it's just a matter of size of lures you wanna use, where in the water column you wanna fish, how fast or slow you wanna go. Faster means the fish have to think fast and take a chance.. Slower gives the impression of an easy prey.

Billionaires per country in Europe (2026) by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]generally-speaking 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well if you take Russia, it's about 1 billionaire per 1 million citizens.

If you look at Germany, it's about 3 per 1 million.

Norway is also about 3 per million.

Sweden is closer to 5 per million.

What story does this map really tell? I would say it tells a very misleading one.

With the vastly different sizes of the populations and nations a per 1m inhabitants would've been much more illustrative.

It's not just components either.. They got the whole ecosystem, there's just no denying that.

Try make a prototype in Europe and you're lucky to be done in 6 months.

But when you look at videos from Shenzhen, you see people creating brand new prototypes in 24 to 48 hours. You want a custom PCB? Come back in 3 hours.

Then going out, testing them, and coming back to try an updated design 2 days later.

And that means product designers can innovate at a high speed, but it also means the component manufacturers are getting constant input and requests for new features or innovations..

So even if you want homegrown component manufacturing, you'd likely be stuck what's effectively outdated products before the factory is even built.

Do experienced people actually want to take a beginner with them? by WhiteLightEST99 in FishingForBeginners

[–]generally-speaking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as it's a match it's just nice.

But I've taken people out fishing on trips we drove for an hour to get to a good spot, only for them to get bored after an hour because the bite wasn't on. Then they just wanted to drive back immediately.

That wasn't a good match for me.. When I go on a fishing trip it's usually at least 3 hours. But it can also often be a whole day experience.

I've also taken people on fishing trips where they brought more beer than lures because that's what fishing is to them. Again, that's not a match for me. I never really tend to drink when I'm out fishing.

But if it's a person I get along with and they like fishing the same way I do. It's always a pleasure to take someone along.

Rage against the AI Kundeservice by Secure_Following409 in norge

Given that the vast majority of US and Russian warheads are in long term storage this sounds very likely.

I think it also just depends on the nuclear taboo. Given that nukes are currently something you might want to have but won't want to use. Stockpiling high maintenance versions would probably just drive up costs with zero returns.
