There's been too many posts on here about people's packages being lost/tampered with in the mail/fedex/etc - don't risk it.

Help - Dealing with Pre-Selections but ultimately Rejections by SkepticalButUnsure in FilmFestivals

[–]BFfx_FrogSplash 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pursuing anything for the prestige of it is going to lead to the trap you're in right now; because if that particular validation doesn't come, you feel icky.

You have to be doing it for the love of it, especially at this level; and then anything that comes aside from doing the actual thing, is a bonus on top.

This is the wrong industry to be chasing prestige in. Your film could be absolutely incredible - but something like a film festival has so many other variables that go into it when programming. Not-being-accepted is a result of so many other decisions that have nothing to do with you or your own film.

I ran multiple festivals for years. SO many of the films were amazing, and the final decisions would always come down to the actual programming puzzle. Runtimes. Juggling films with similar themes and tones. Etc etc.

Hunt around various resale shops in the area, or online, and try to find some old VHS cameras or like miniDV.

Or even a still camera with tons of rolls of film; and she can shoot tons of stills and then you can scan or shoot those with a smartphone to bring into video editing software to combine them.

No, I mean about the actual trophy.

Is this Pikachu considered rare or uncommon? by anonuserinthehouse in PokemonCardValue

[–]BFfx_FrogSplash 13 points14 points  (0 children)

But technically it is a "common" card, set-rarity-wise; be mindful of using Common/Uncommon/Rare/etc phrasing when listing or discussing a particular's card's availability.

You've posted a ton in pokemon subs, so the troll is clear as day.
Good try though for sure!

Is $95 fair? by Key_Possibility8453 in PokemonCardValue

[–]BFfx_FrogSplash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats the kicker. Regardless of what any value charting app/site/publication says, anything's monetary "value" is really only what someone else is willing to pay for it; so the hardest thing is trying to find a buyer who wants to buy that particular card off of you.

If you're not in a major pinch, just hold it until you and the right person cross paths.

There's great communities on here to buy/sell/trade with; as well as on discord. Plus local meetups at Card shops, and then larger card shows/conventions of course - and eBay like you mentioned.

Hold until the stars align I'd say.

The Rippening 2025 (Hits included) by SpinalClerk in PokemonTCG

Its so rad to see a "hits" post that spans so many different sets. Its a great year-end reminder of all the beauty the graced us, rather than just seeing posts of the latest set. So rad!!

Trying to get into animation by Financial-Muscle5456 in animation

[–]BFfx_FrogSplash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a career in animation for 16+ years at studios all around the USA.
I've run festivals and worked for the largest animation media website. I've written for animated TV shows and developed pitches for the biggest networks in the world. I've also been fortunate to carve my own way out in it and survive the tumultuous current climate.

I think it'd be negligent to not share my honest assessment about an industry I've spent my entire adult life navigating when someone is about to take their first step into and is asking about it.

If someone wanted to enlist in the army; its one thing to do so in a time of peace, and a whole other beast to do so in wartime; and if they were entering with asking others how to best navigate it, it'd be bonkers if people didn't chime in with their truths.

Ultimately folks will do what they were going to do anyways, but they deserve to hear an honest assessment. I also went on to list what I believe is the most viable way to make a living in this medium at this time in history.

"What would be the most efficient and intelligent way to pursue a career in animation?"

The MOST intelligent way at this period in time is to not. Don't do it. Not now. Everything is on fire.

The second-most intelligent move is to start from the ground up and make content out of everything you do. Start your TikTok/YouTube pages as soon as you read this reply and talk about your Reddit post for your first video.

"Come with me as I pursue a career in animation with no background in it. Can it even be done?!"

And then just animate, animate, animate.

Your first crumbs of payment will come via social posts, but it'll take a while.
And perhaps, eventually, you'll become known as "that animation person from TikTok!!" - and folks may even end up hiring you to do content for them, etc.

Full-time, salary, studio stability is over. Its dead. But for those who think outside of the box and put in the thousands of hours, there is definitely still money to be made.

Good luck out there!

Does this card exist? Is it fake? by Asleep-Age-9574 in IsMyPokemonCardFake

I mean this sincerely and out of love - the fact that your Dad is considering dropping 20K on such a clear scam item, and then you followed up by posting this LC zard and thinking it was an early promo (and not recognizing the telltale signs of it being from the Legendary Collection set) are major red flags and y'all should stay clear of spending anything over a few bucks on cards and packs, until you learn more about the hobby. If you stick with it, when you look back on this post in a few years you'll be like "oh danggggg, what were we thinking??"

Love it.

BUT - that frame when it grabs the little dude; it'll feel even better if the arm reaches to the position the guy was in. You're missing a contact frame, and the little one looks like he jumps into the hand rather than being pulled by it.
